Line Location Technician I - Pay Grade B04 (Hourly Range: $21.09 - $34.80)
Graduation from high school and/or equivalent with previous experience working in utility maintenance or related construction. Basic experience with map reading, blueprint reading and locating equipment preferred. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Possession of FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Level certification preferred.
Must have basic knowledge of Florida State Statute 556 (Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety).
Must have the ability to read and interpret Sunshine 811 locate tickets and IRTH communications.
Line Location Technician II - Pay Grade B05 (Hourly Range: $22.14 - $36.54)
Graduation from high school and/or equivalent plus one (1) year of experience working in utility maintenance or related construction. Must have experience with map reading, blueprint reading, engineering and/or GIS work. Must have one (1) year of specialized training in underground utilities locating. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Possession of FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Level certification required.
Must have basic knowledge of Florida State Statute 556 (Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety).

Line Location Technician III - Pay Grade B06 (Hourly Range: $23.25 - $38.36)
Graduation from high school and/or equivalent with two (2) years of experience working in utility maintenance or related construction. Must have experience with map reading, blueprint reading, engineering and/or GIS work. Must have two (2) years of specialized training in underground utilities locating. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Possession of a “III” Level Certification for Water Distribution or “C” Level Certification for Wastewater Collection, or the ability to obtain either certification within eighteen (18) months of hire date.
Possession of FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Level certification required.
Possession of OSHA 10 (1910) Certificate required.
Certification in Trenching and Shoring required.
Must have general knowledge of Florida State Statute 556 (Underground Facility Damage Prevention and Safety).

Line Location Technician IV - Pay Grade B07 (Hourly Range: $24.41 - $40.28)
Graduation from high school and/or equivalent plus three (3) years of experience working in utility maintenance or related construction. Experience with map reading, blueprint reading, engineering and/or GIS work required. Must have three (3) years of specialized training in underground utilities locating. Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License and have and maintain an acceptable driving record.
Possession of a “III” Level Certification for Water Distribution or “C” Level Certification for Wastewater Collection is required.
Possession of FDOT approved Temporary Traffic Control Intermediate Level certification required.
Possession of OSHA 10 (1910) Certificate is required.
Possession of OSHA 30 Certificate is required.
Certification in Trenching and Shoring required.
Certification in Confined Space required.

Code 2: Non-essential employees will not be required to work during a declared emergency but may be required to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee’s Department Head will make the determination when the employee will be required to work.
Under general supervision, performs skilled technical work by physically locating, but not limited to, water distribution mains, water transmission mains, gravity sewer mains, force mains, reclaimed water mains and all related appurtenances through the use of hand tools, electronic locators, atlas maps and as-built drawings, etc. Employee shall have basic knowledge of city water distribution and wastewater collections systems. Employee is responsible for performing prescribed work in a safe and efficient manner. Employee shall be responsible for the upkeep and efficient operation of all tools and equipment used. Employee shall provide detailed written reports of work performed. Must exercise considerable tact and courtesy in frequent contact with the Public, other City Departments, Contractors and Utility Companies. Reports to the Utilities Engineering Project Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS - Additional essential job functions will vary based on Level I, II, III or IV
Accurately verify and identify size, material, location and depth of underground utilities in regards, but not limited to, water and wastewater pipes and fixtures.
Operate and maintain electronic line locating and other equipment as it relates to job functions.
Physically excavate utility mains and related appurtenances utilizing hand tools.
Properly identify telecommunications cabling such as twisted pair, coaxial, fiber optics, trunk and distribution lines in a commercial environment.
Properly identify low and high voltage power cables in a commercial environment.
Have basic knowledge of the OSHA occupational hazards, standard safety precautions, safe work methods, and related safety devices associated with locating underground utilities.
Properly set up and maintain Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) as required for safe operation of job duties.
Accurately identify exposure to potential physical harm, moving traffic, dangerous machinery, infectious diseases, hazardous chemicals, electrical hazards, wild animals and extreme weather conditions. Work in trenches and around heavy equipment operated by others.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other utility locators, field engineers and contractors.
Attend pre-construction and engineering inspection meetings as required.
Interpret and complete work order forms and locate tickets on a digital platform. Prepares records and reports as required.
Physically remove/replace manhole lids to verify size and condition of manhole and to verify size, type and depth of main/lateral.
May be required to work weekends and holidays. May be required to respond to after hour calls.
Performs other work as required.
