
Position Responsibilities
Performs maintenance, diagnosis and repair of generators and small equipment, snowmobiles, and ATVs. Performs rebuilds on engines, drivetrains or componentsor equipment. Provides training for personnel on the safe use of the above equipment.
Performs on-site maintenance and repair to equipment in field, asrequired
In field camps, works as Equipment Operator asrequired, including, but not limitedto:grooming theskiwayand loading/unloadingaircraft Trains camp staff on proper equipment and vehicle usage. Contributes to field camp end of season report, asrequired Required to perform a variety of tasks, such as shoveling, cargo organization and movement, and fuelingaircraft,vehiclesand buildings.
Maintains detailed records on all work performed and completes work orders.
Operates andmaintainsequipmentincludingcompressors, presses, air tools, electric power tools,forklifts, grooming equipment, etc.
Assists MEC Shop Foreman/Camp Manager with daily operations. In field camps maybe requiredtoassistthe heavy equipment technician with taskings.
Maintains a clean,orderlyand safe work area.
Performs duties in support of metrics (as provided by the supervisor).
Supports the achievement of ASC metrics, whether they can be directly or indirectly, effected by job duties.
Complies withall ASC Environmental Health & Safety and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provides documentation to these divisions as necessary to ensure adequate and legal documentation.
Works to achieve ASC goals and contractual commitments.
Maintains workplace program and ensures safety is the highest priority in theworkplace

High School diploma orGED
Technician Level I:
A minimum of two years’ experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators isrequired
Technician Level II:
A minimum offouryears’ experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators isrequired,or three years’ experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators with at least one season experience working on vehicles in Antarctica.
Technician Level III:
A minimum of seven years’ experience in maintenance and repair of diesel and gasoline small engines and generators isrequired
Preferred
Training at a technical school
Experience working on small engines and generators in Antarctica
Experience in snowmobile or ATV maintenance and repair and/or maintenance of tracked vehicles such as Tucker Sno-Cats andPistenBullys
Previouscold weatherexperience
Wilderness First Responder Certification
Experience withdiesel,two and four stroke engines;maintainingsmall engines
Experience with electrical power generation
Experience rebuilding engines
Experience rebuilding gear cases and drive trains
Able to read and understand wiring schematics
Able to teach end users how to use and fieldmaintainequipment
Physical and/or Other Requirements
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Mustparticipatein community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safetyobjectives
Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States
Must be able to obtain andmaintainfacility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship isrequiredfor facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
