Job Description

· Operates a truck and trailer to transport equipment and materials.

· Operates a truck and trailer, read-end loader, or other equipment along a predetermined route to collect refuse.

· Operates a tractor with bush hog and other grounds maintenance equipment to mow grass on city rights-of-way, in the city cemetery, and on other city properties.

· Operates hand and power tools in the performance of ground maintenance duties.

· Plans and prunes trees and shrubs.

· Operates a backhoe and dump truck to close and open graves in the cemetery.

· Maintains radio contact with dispatchers to send and receive information.

· Maintains assigned vehicles and equipment; performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections.

· Assists in traffic control at work sites.

· Performs related duties.

Requirements

· Knowledge of the techniques, equipment, and supplies used in grounds and cemetery maintenance.

· Knowledge of city and departmental safety policies and procedures.

· Knowledge of the geography of the city, including street names and locations.

· Skill in the operation of assigned vehicles, trucks and light equipment.

· Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.

· Skill in the use of hand and power tools.

· Skill in oral and written communication.
