Job Description

The Lift Planning/Rigging Specialist will ensure that all site activities comply with regulatory, environmental, and internal standards. This role requires strong communication, coordination, and leadership to drive compliance culture across the project. The candidate will work both in the field and in the office to support and improve site-wide compliance.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  1. Develop lift plans for routine, complex, and critical lifting operations.
  2. Evaluate load weights, dimensions, centers of gravity, and lifting points.
  3. Select appropriate cranes, rigging equipment, and lifting accessories for specific lifts.
  4. Review crane load charts and verify crane capacities for planned configurations.
  5. Perform site assessments to identify potential hazards, ground-bearing pressures, obstructions, and environmental concerns.
  6. Produce lift drawings, crane setup layouts, and rigging sketches using approved software and engineering tools.
  7. Coordinate with project teams, clients, and field personnel to ensure lift plan requirements are understood and followed.
  8. Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for lifting operations.
  9. Ensure compliance with OSHA, ASME, local regulations, and company safety standards.
  10. Support critical lift reviews and participate in pre-lift meetings.
  11. Maintain lift plan documentation, records, and revision control.
  12. Provide technical guidance on crane operations, rigging practices, and lift execution.
  13. Investigate lifting incidents and recommend corrective actions when required.
  14. Other duties as needed or assigned.
Requirements

Education & Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree in construction, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in crane operations, rigging, lift planning, engineering support, or a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of crane load charts, rigging principles, lifting equipment, and lift planning practices.
  • Experience using lift planning software and CAD applications is preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, structural plans, and technical specifications.
  • Thorough understanding of OSHA regulations, ASME B30 standards, environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements, and applicable industry lifting regulations.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel extensively as business needs require.
  • Current OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification preferred.
  • Current Global Wind Organization (GWO) Certification preferred.
  • NCCCO Crane Operator and/or Lift Director Certification preferred.
  • NCCER Rigging Certification preferred.
  • Training and demonstrated knowledge of ASME B30 standards preferred.

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

This position is on site, often in remote or rural areas. Team members will be required to adhere to all safety requirements in all work environments.

Specific requirements include:

  • Exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Work may involve heights, confined spaces, and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, crouching, and climbing during onsite inspections.
  • Ability to climb vertical ladders and work at heights of at least 260 feet.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Ability to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by business needs or project deadlines.
  • Travel up to 100%
