Job Description

  1. Develop, lead and maintain activities programs for Assisted Living Residents and Reflections Program Residents. Lead programs within both Assisted Living and Reflections neighborhoods on a routine basis in accordance with organizational standards, maintain a daily presence in both neighborhoods and familiarity with all residents.
  2. Support Residents in continuing with interests, hobbies and activities that they have previously pursued.
  3. Offer new opportunities to enhance their lives with new learning experiences, including but not limited to, the learning of new crafts, dramatic club, choral groups, discussion groups, and new avenues for self-expression.
  4. Plan and coordinate outings of any conceivable type, i.e., art galleries, theatre, music, racetracks, spiritual, and cultural programs.
  5. Provide consistent activity within the community that will foster the expansion of friendships.
  6. Assist Residents in the formation of various clubs and organizations and interest groups, thus generating opportunities for leadership and involvement in the workings of the community.
  7. Plan a monthly calendar of events for Residents that includes on-going diversified activities that meet the religious, social, emotional, educational and recreational needs of the Residents and meet the organization’s programmatic standards.
  8. Coordinate Resident monies for special activities and events planned and run by the Programming Department.
  9. Write and edit a monthly newsletter, copies of which will be provided to each Resident and appropriate staff.  These will be distributed to referral sources and recent inquiries and used as a marketing tool.
  10. Coordinate transportation for all special trips planned by the Programming Department.
  11. Interview all new Residents, provide them with a welcome basket and provide new Resident with orientation to building, available amenities, activities, etc.
  12. Purchase and prepare seasonal decorations as well as decorate and partner with fellow department leadership/peers for various themed events, including sales and marketing events.
  13. Establish, conduct and maintain records of Resident Council, its officers, and minutes of each meeting.
  14. Establish a welcome committee to assure new Residents’ move-in will be as successful an experience as possible.
  15. Request and/or purchase, in accordance with the activities budget, supplies necessary for the program.
  16. Maintain knowledge of Residents’ backgrounds, hobbies, special interests, languages spoken, etc, and assist with ensuring resident service plans incorporate this information, as applicable.
  17. Coordinate exercise and swim programs for active and/or residents with disabilities according to individual Resident needs and interests.
  18. Manage the Programming Department staff, including interviewing/hiring/coaching & mentoring/training/disciplining/terminating, and coach and enable programming team members to work independently to carry out parallel programming in both neighborhoods, including additional small group or 1:1 resident programming where applicable and beneficial.
  19. Create monthly schedules for the Programming Department staff ensuring coverage on all shifts. Responsible to cover shifts in person if coverage cannot be obtained.
  20. Evaluate staff and perform annual evaluations.
  21. Support fellow department leaders/peers in facilitating components of new hire orientation and/or monthly in-services for all team members, specifically as related to programming, including both not limited to programming team members and RSAs for all neighborhoods. Facilitate training and support of team members (including RSAs) in programming to ensure they are comfortable supporting any programs they assist with and/or that programs they assist with are well matched to their interests and abilities.
  22. Perform Safety Observation reports on staff.
  23. Selectively recruit volunteers to assist in social programs.
  24. Arrange for photographs to be taken at major events and maintain an album of these pictures.  Distribute press releases of events to local news media and partner with marketing team to create and facilitate positive publicity for the company.
  25. Become knowledgeable on how to operate all equipment necessary to operate the Programming Department.
  26. Network with outside contacts to recruit social and educational groups in the community to participate in the company activities.
  27. Perform other duties as assigned by Executive Director/General Manager or Regional Director of Resident Experience.
