Job Description

The Process/Mold Technician is responsible for high-level knowledge of electronic, process, calibration, and control systems for all manufacturing equipment. Process/Mold Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing molds and injection equipment. Monitors and reports on injection molds and recommendations for refurbishment based on production factors such as cycles, process capability, and tooling history. Process/Mold Technician will standardize and calibrate critical equipment parameters to ensure repeatable processes that follow OEM diagrams, operation manuals, and specifications. The Process/Mold Technician will provide technical solutions to reduce cycle time, repair tools, eliminate scrap, and avoid additional costs through a preventive repair approach. Must be self-directed and willing to accept operational responsibility and accountability. The position requires a sense of urgency and the ability to work any shift, including overtime and weekends, with little notice to accomplish company goals.

Primary Functions
• Must work safely following all OSHA and GMP requirements and set a good example for all; including LOTO, PPE requirements and hot surface precautions.
• Fosters a safety and quality-first approach to all tasks, providing the best outcome to teammates and customers. Understands and follows plant safety rules. Help to identify and eliminate any safety hazards or concerns. Assists in monitoring the quality of work output.
• Maintains compliance with company policy and procedures.
• Conduct first article inspections and in-process quality checks
• Complete production paperwork, downtime logs and shift reports accurately
• Follow control plans, work instructions and quality management system (QMS) procedures
• Must always be a great teammate and lead by example. Must show proactive thinking in the training and development of shift personnel to maximize efficiencies in the shift operation. Promote Teamwork and foster an exemplary working environment. Interact with coworkers constructively to enhance employee satisfaction. Strives to have no conflicts with other employees.
• Perform tasks such as interfacing with the Engineering Team, production, cross-functional teams, and outside vendors when reacting to urgent requests that could impact production, new equipment purchases, installation of various equipment, commission, and complete the customer sign-off process when required, while following all safety requirements and procedures.
• Participate in the preventative maintenance program, ensuring accuracy of maintenance history records for all equipment. Coordinate and fabricate any necessary tools and equipment to support the facility's various departments as required. Assist with adherence to the preventative maintenance program that exceeds the molding/assembly department(s) performance goals.
• Must be responsible for continually improving all aspects of job functions, training, education, and research, especially in performing job functions. Must maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area with 5S standards.
• Requires regular attendance to perform the essential elements as contained herein between the assigned start and end times for work.
• Must be capable of demonstrating a high level of root cause analysis by analyzing, identifying, and applying sustainable solutions. Recommend improvements to upgrade equipment and processes.
• Provide daily assessment of tooling and process-related issues at the start of the shift with detailed information on equipment status, issues, corrective actions, and preventive activities to avoid additional cost and resources. Responsibility for communicating and verifying problems and actions that ensure the company meets its OEE and scrap goals daily.
• Assist in developing and maintaining process documentation, ensuring processes and procedures are clearly stated and understandable for all employees. Provide technical support/solutions for manufacturing processes, improve yield and throughput, drive cost-reduction initiatives, and enhance part quality through continual improvement.
• Perform mold changes, set-ups, and start-ups, and ensure all aspects of production are acceptable.
• Strong technical knowledge of hot runners, including internal hardware such as manifolds, nozzles, and valve gate assemblies. Must be able to read prints and maintain tight assembly tolerances.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues while proficiently executing hands-on service for molds and hot runners, while tearing down, repairing, and reassembling while on the bench or in the press as required. Provide timely, short- and long-term corrective actions as needed.
• Must be able to diagnose, tear down, repair, polish cavities, and assemble on the bench or in the press as required. May be required to assemble jigs, fixtures, tools, and dies.
• Responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and calibrating automated and semi-automated equipment.
• Must be familiar with PLCs and HMI controls. Use Asset Essentials (CMMS) software to track all planned and unplanned repairs. Complete daily inspections generated by Asset Essentials.
• Responsible for ensuring the inventory system has tooling spare parts, complete with order points, parts specification, and cost controls, never allowing a production down situation.
• Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 5+ years of technical hands-on experience in an injection molding operation.
• RJG, AIM, Paulson, and Routsis certifications are a plus.
• Familiar with PLC programming and electrical controls, as applicable.
• Detailed knowledge of the mechanical, design, and general machining capabilities, as applicable.
• Thorough familiarity with the hydraulic function of manufacturing equipment.
• Thorough familiarity with Electrical/Electronic components of manufacturing equipment.
• Self-motivated to learn and perform job tasks to meet or exceed customer and company expectations.
• Demonstrates the capacity to work at an efficient rate to meet production goals and standards.
• Effectively communicates with others both verbally and in writing.
Physical Requirements
• Requires up to 12 hours of standing/walking daily.
• Must be able to lift 45-50 lbs. individually. And the team lifts upwards of 50-100 lbs.
• Must be able to individually push/pull 50 lbs. and push/pull upwards of 50-100 lbs.
• Must be able to bend/stoop/twist, crouch/squat, reach above and below shoulders
• Requires repetitive use of the arm, wrist, and hand.
• Must be able to work with machinery and hand tools.
• Moderate exposure to heat, cold, and noise.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including hearing protection, safety glasses, and safety toe shoes.
