Hourly Rate:

22.69

Minimum Weekly Hours:

Up to three (3) positions available.

Hourly pay + 16% in lieu of vacation, statutory holidays and benefits.

Accepting applications until positions are filled. Hiring will occur on an ongoing basis throughout the posting period.

Reporting to the Coordinator, Aquatics, this position involves instructing classes for children and adults in all levels of swimming and performing normal lifeguard duties.

Duties Include

  • Performs normal lifeguard duties including supervising guests and ensuring the pool area is free from hazards.
  • Plans and instructs all swim programs as needed.
  • Completes documentation related to facility incidents, water quality, cleaning schedules, checklists, reports and program records.
  • Tests water quality in swimming pools.
  • Carries out assigned cleaning and minor preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum 16 years of age.
  • Current Lifesaving Society Swimming Instructor Certification.
  • Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Certification (Pool Option).
  • Current CPR Level C certification.
  • A combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrates initiative and a willingness to learn.
  • Good interpersonal skills, exhibiting courtesy and professionalism when dealing with customers and co-workers.
  • Able to maintain records, complete incident reports, and perform related clerical duties as required.
  • Ability to operate water testing equipment and first aid equipment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an acceptable (Vulnerable Sector) Police Information Check.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Standard First Aid Certification.
  • Pool Operators Level 1.
  • Lifesaving Instructor Certification.
