To ensure the safety of members and guests utilizing Aquatics Center venues by observing swimmers, protecting life, preventing accidents, and enforcing regulations. Will assist Aquatics Manager in ensuring maintenance and cleanliness of facilities and will provide quality customer service and assistance to members and guests.

Essential Functions

• Will give oversight to the day-to-day operations of the aquatic’s programs and facilities in conjunction with Aquatics Manager.
• Perform water rescues according to established site-specific procedures; provides First Aid/CPR, and acts as a first responder in emergency situations as needed. Complete all supplemental paperwork and record keeping.
• Maintain clear communication with staff, volunteers, members/guests, in both written and verbal formats.
• Follow and enforce equipment checkout procedure.
• Report all facility and equipment defects to Aquatic Supervisors
• Maintain the professional lifeguard attitude and approach to problem solving.
• Conduct hourly chemical readings for all pools, report readings on appropriate sheet and to Aquatic’s manager.
• Ensure all pools are covered and Aquatic center is adequately secured at close of day.
• Administer swim tests to members/guests as directed.
• Perform all maintenance duties as directed by Aquatics Manager. Including but not limited too; deck cleaning, locker room checks and common areas, equipment, etc.
• Ensure that injuries, accidents, and incidents are reported immediately to Aquatics Manager along with a copy of the correct reports.
• Must wear Kroc Center approved apparel as assigned by management.
• Maintain a safe working environment; report all potential PTM problems to Aquatics Manager.
• Attend all staff trainings as assigned.
• Must have ability to work flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and split shifts (depending on season). For summer employment, must be available approximately mid-June through August as scheduled without leave
• Follow and adhere to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 40lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must possess and maintain current certificates in American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22) or above; CPR for the Professional Rescuer (CPR Pro), Oxygen Administration, and Lifeguarding. Equivalent training certificates may be accepted.
• Must successfully complete a 500-yard swim in less that 10 minutes, tread water for 2 minutes, and complete a brick retrieval test in deep water in under 1 minute 20 seconds.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

• Must have ability to swim with proficiency and endurance.
• High school diploma, or diploma in progress.
• Must have ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with members and guests; work cooperatively with others, analyze situations and adapt a quick and effective course of action, maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any sign of danger.
• Ability to function in an outdoor, often loud and cold environment.
• Ability to uphold and enhance public appreciation and trust.
• Ability to maintain member/guest confidentiality.
• Must have the ability to maintain non-judgmental attitude in working with customers/guests/staff of all ages, races, and socio-economic statuses.
• Thrive in a team-oriented environment.
• Demonstrate ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, members, and customers.
• Must have a command of the English Language and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
