Job Description

This is skilled water-safety work involved in the operation and programs associated with aquatics facility. Responsible for safeguarding patrons. Work involves the prevention of injury or loss of life at aquatics facilities for swimming by performing water rescue and prevention techniques, first aid, and CPR. Duties also include a variety of maintenance tasks.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

· Maintain the safety of the patrons in and around the pool;

· Perform First Aid and CPR when required;

· Communicate and enforce all regulations and pool rules in a personable and professional manner;

· Communicate any potentially dangerous elements of the facility to the Pool Manager;

· Attend all scheduled staff meetings;

· Test the water, record results and report imbalances to the supervisor;

· Handle all incidents in a manner appropriate to training;

· Complete all injury reports in timely manner;

· Observe and monitor the assigned area in rotation to prevent accidents and injuries;

· Aid the pool manager and head lifeguard in every way necessary to keep the pool facility running smoothly;

· Report promptly at assigned time of duty and remain on duty status until the designated shift has been completed;

· Enforce the City of Columbia Swimming Pool rules and regulations and adhere to the policies of the facility and aid in controlling the behavior of those patrons who use the facility. (Remind patrons of pool rules when necessary in a polite, firm manner, and contact management if necessary.);

· Maintain positive public relations at the swimming pool;

· Document and reports all disciplinary problems and accidents to the Manager or Head Lifeguard;

· Custodial duties in maintaining a clean facility including but not limited to bathrooms, trash picked up in and outside of facility, etc.;

· Inform the Manager or Head Lifeguard when supplies are needed and if equipment needs repaired;

· Attend all scheduled staff meetings and trainings;

· Work effectively with staff; and work effectively and courteously with pool patrons and the general public.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:

Knowledge of:

· Lifesaving techniques and procedures

Ability to:

· Act quickly and calmly in emergencies;

· Accept instructions from those in a supervisory role, and accept constructive feedback;

· Concentrate on tasks in the presence of distractions;

· Work with public and have excellent oral communication skills;

· Manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects;

· Climb in and out of pool and up and down ladders;

· Express or exchange ideas and convey detailed or important information.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Manual labor is required. Extreme weather conditions and working with chemicals are factors in this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Lifeguard Training Certification, CPR & First Aid

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires weekend and holiday work.
