Join the team at Kinsmen Leisure Centre as a Lifeguard IV, where you'll play a key role in leading aquatics operations, mentoring staff, and creating outstanding experiences for residents. You'll support and develop a large team of part-time employees, help ensure safe and efficient facility operations, and contribute to a positive, customer-focused environment.

Working as part of a collaborative supervisory team, you'll combine your technical expertise with strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills to exceed expectations and make a meaningful impact every day.

This posting is for 1 temporary full-time position up to 18 months

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead and support a high-performing aquatics team, providing direct supervision to the Lifeguard III and indirect supervision to approximately 35–40 Lifeguards I & II and Recreation Attendants
• Mentor and guide Lifeguard III staff in addressing performance-related matters, while contributing to meaningful performance review conversations that support the growth and success of part-time staff.
• Develop and manage staff schedules using workforce management software to ensure operational coverage and service excellence
• Champion workplace health and safety by completing OH&S responsibilities, promoting safe work practices, and ensuring staff receive appropriate training and ongoing support
• Partner with the Operations Technician to address mechanical and operational issues at Kinsmen Leisure Centre and Broadmoor Spray Park during the summer season
• Coordinate maintenance and repair activities with internal and external trades to ensure aquatic systems remain safe, reliable, and operational
• Oversee aquatic operations to ensure compliance with Alberta Health regulations, industry standards, and organizational policies and procedures
• Deliver exceptional customer service by responding to inquiries, concerns, and feedback in a professional, timely, and solution-focused manner
• Support budget oversight by monitoring operational expenditures, contributing to monthly variance reporting, and assisting with staffing, equipment, chemical, and supply management
• Provide ongoing leadership and direction to the aquatics team, including maintaining operational procedures, checklists, and facility documentation
• Work with the Lifeguard III to plan, coordinate, and facilitate staff meetings, training sessions, certifications, and professional development opportunities for part-time lifeguard and recreation attendant staff
• Respond confidently to emergencies, providing first aid, emergency care, and operational leadership during critical incidents
• Build strong relationships with facility teams, Corporate Health and Safety, Central Services, and other stakeholders to support purchasing, incident investigations, and operational objectives
• Procure equipment, chemicals, and operational supplies through Oracle to support efficient day-to-day facility operations
• Contribute as a member of the facility's supervisory team, helping to drive continuous improvement, collaboration, and a positive workplace culture

Qualifications and Skills:

• Diploma (degree an asset) in Recreation, Business Administration or a related field
• 5 years of lifeguarding experience with a minimum of 4 years supervisory experience
• Experience in software programs: When to Work, Intelli, iTrak, Oracle, Asset Planner, and MS Office Suite
• Able to effectively lead, train, motivate and supervise a fulltime supervisory staff members and assist them in the supervision of large diverse part-time staff
• Sound knowledge of occupational health and safety, public health standards and provincial swimming pool operational guidelines
• Critical thinking and facilitation skills
• Attention to detail, big picture thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong communication skills with excellent public relations and customer service skills
• Mechanical aptitude and general building/pool system knowledge, able to trouble shoot operational issues
• Current certification in:
  • National Lifeguard Award
  • Aquatic Emergency Care
  • CPR/AED
  • Pool Operator level I and II (preferred)

Conditions of Employment:

• Submission of a Satisfactory Criminal Record Check
• Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
• Available to work a Sunday through Thursday schedule, including at least 1 evening shift per week. Schedule may vary during shutdown periods. On-call availability to support part-time staff outside of regular working hours.
