Responsible for preventing, identifying, and responding to accidents/injuries. A Lifeguard must be punctual, fair, consistent, knowledgeable and professional. Responsible for ensuring patron and swimmer safety. In addition, will assist pool management to develop strategies leading to the accomplishment of division goals.

Examples of duties

1. Determines, enforces and prevents rule violations in and around the pool or pertaining to the facility.

2. Identifies and responds to emergency situations and administer care.

3. Performs general maintenance in and around the pool.

4. Responsible for collection of fees and promoting public relations with pool users.

5. Attends all weekly in-services as directed by the department.

6. Ensures the safety of aquatic patrons.

7. Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.

8. Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

9. Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers, and others in the course of daily work.

Qualifications

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

• Must have effective oral communication skills and be a strong swimmer.

• Ability to work outside in inclement weather, including high heat and humidity, for multiple hours with few breaks.

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

• Must have good written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with pool patrons.

• Must be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age 15.

No lifeguarding experience required.

StarGuard ELITE Lifeguard certification required prior to performing Lifeguard duties.

Emergency Oxygen Certification required within 6 months of hire or at earliest available opportunity thereafter.

Certifications must be maintained while employed in the job.

Must pass a Federal/National criminal background check.

Must pass a pre-employment drug screen.

WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the essential functions of this position, there may be routine and frequent exposure to:

• Bright/dim light

• Wet or humid conditions

• Extreme noise levels

• Fumes and/or noxious odors

• Heights

• Toxic/caustic chemicals

• Other extreme hazards not listed above

Safety equipment is provided and must be worn as required by department procedures and good safety practices.
