Salary Range: $15.00 - $15.00 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:
Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains constant surveillance of the pool area, standing at water’s edge or in an elevated chair with clear visibility of entire pool area.
- Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Completes related reports as required.
- Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.
- Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed; report to Supervisor in writing any problems.
- Checks the pool and deck for hazardous conditions when arriving.
- Inspect locker rooms before and after shift.
- Arrange for qualified substitute if needed and notify supervisor.
- Attends all staff meetings and training as required.
- Maintains positive relations with members, participants and other staff. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.
- Supports The Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards (HEPA), encouraging children, adults and families to adopt a healthy lifestyle and role-models the standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum age requirement – 16 years of age.
- Certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification.
- Current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding Certification prior to employment.
- Oxygen Administration certification
- Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- Complete YMCA of the USA New Employee Orientation e-learning course.
