This position requires that the employee work flexible shifts. This may include early morning, evenings, weekends and holidays. Employees are responsible for finding their own substitutes for scheduled shifts; are expected to work rentals and swim meets; and are expected to work together as a team.
Position Responsibilities
Position Summary
Primary responsibility is to safeguard the lives of individuals in the University of Idaho Swim Center and prevent accidents through knowledge of lifesaving, proper use of equipment, and awareness and responsibility. Lifeguards can plan on working during operational hours, special events and rentals. Employees are expected to greet the public in a courteous manner and serve as an information source for aquatic related inquiries. This part-time position is available through the academic year and summer.
Responsibilities
Job Duty Function Safeguard the lives of patrons of the University of Idaho Swim Center by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
Maintaining current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification and current American Red Cross CPRPR Certification;
Maintaining constant surveillance of patrons in the facility;
Acting immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency;
Providing emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services;
Attending all In-Services meetings/trainings.
Percentage Of Time 85% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Support the University of Idaho Swim Center by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
Maintaining thorough knowledge of pool operations and programs;
Establishing and maintaining good public relations with the community;
Presenting a professional appearance and attitude at all times;
Preparing and maintaining appropriate activity reports;
Promoting all facility programs.
Percentage Of Time 10% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Contributing to team effort by: Job Duties/Responsibilities
Performing various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility;
Performing other job-related duties as assigned.
Percentage Of Time 5% Essential/Marginal Marginal
Position Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Must possess:
Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or equivalent;
Current American Red Cross CPRPR Certification;
Skill in the application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working as a lifeguard.
Previous work experience that demonstrates ability to:
Work well with public;
Communicate effectively;
Enforce regulations in a fair, impartial and polite manner;
Work effectively as a member of a team;
Exercise good judgment, both with public relations and emergency situations;
Gain knowledge of safety rules and regulations and possesses willingness to enforce them;
Provide good customer service.
