Department: LIFE Center

Shift/schedule: Part Time (20 hrs/wk)

GENERAL SUMMARY

The lifeguard works under the supervision of the Wellness Operations Manager. The Lifeguard's primary job is to provide a safe and high quality environment for members and patients while being prepared and able to respond to life threatening saving situations. The lifeguard is responsible for the upkeep, cleanliness and safety of all who are present in the aquatic areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• Basic Literary Skills required

Licensure:

• Lifeguard certification required

• BLS/AED for the professional rescuer within 90 days of hire required

Experience:

• Previous experience as a Lifeguard preferred

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

The following is a summary of the major job duties of this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  1. Greets all members and patients entering aquatic area.
  2. Supervises bathers and swimmers using pool. Assures that all users use pool safely and do not jeopardize other swimmers.
  3. Provides coverage on deck while there is at least 1 person in the pool.
  4. Provides instruction to members requesting help with water exercise and/or swimming help.
  5. Performs chemicals test regularly and logs results.
  6. Performs regularly scheduled pool maintenance including backwashing and vacuuming.
  7. Maintains clean aquatic environment. Regularly cleans decks, hallways, empty soiled linen cart, pool office and water equipment.
  8. Assists LIFE Center Service Reps in upkeep of locker rooms.
  9. Demonstrates understanding of the automatic pool system.
  10. Demonstrates understating of pool heating system.
  11. Demonstrates ability to rescue bather.
  12. Demonstrates ability to troubleshoot chemical deficiency or surplus.
  13. Demonstrates the ability to oversee and enforce pool appropriate behavior.
  14. Maintains adequate supplies and aquatic chemicals for the automatic pool system.
  15. Performs weekly eye wash station test.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.
