Job Description

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Leadership Team, Lifeguards will monitor activities, observe, and provide assistance to swimmers, prevent accidents, protect lives, enforce regulations, and control access to pools, family locker rooms, and lockers. Lifeguards will provide first aid when necessary and assist with the implementation of aquatics programs. This position is also required to assist with general facility maintenance and cleaning duties as assigned.

Pool/Member Safety

  • Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.
  • Analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
  • Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
  • Provide first aid, rescue breathing CPR and AED when necessary.
  • Practice safe work habits and contribute to the safety of self, Kroc Center co-workers, and the general public.
  • Assist with any aspect of aquatic program.

Pool/Equipment Maintenance

  • Inspect and maintain cleanliness of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned.
  • Under supervision, set up and breakdown facility equipment as needed.
  • Under supervision, help setup and breakdown Wim Meet Timing System.
  • Test or provide information for all required pool documents on a daily basis.

Miscellaneous

  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone
  • Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
  • Attend required staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Learn and adhere to all Policies and Procedures.
  • Carry out The Salvation Army mission in your actions and words during your employment. Ensure that the ultimate goal of spirituality, emotional and physical regeneration of all people is represented and infused in all programs, trainings, customer relations, and level of operation.
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.

Qualifications

  • At least 15 years of age.
  • Must possess Lifeguard Certification.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required within first 6 months of employment.
  • Must understand and support The Salvation Army’s mission as a church and a social services organization.
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 1 weekend shift per month.

Desired Qualifications

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard or Shallow Water Certification strongly preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to verbally communicate with a diverse audience of members.
