Job Shift Day

Job Title: Lifeguard

Reports to: Aquatics Leadership Team, Deck Supervisor

Preferred Shifts: 9:00AM - 12:00PM and 12:00PM - 3:00PM or a combination.

Essential Functions:

• Be identifiable with a lifeguard shirt, whistle, swimsuit, hip pack and rescue tube.
• Enforce all pool rules and proactively address members to maintain a safe environment.
• Must be skilled in observing large groups of swimmers and be ready at all times to prevent serious injuries.
• Review all emergency procedures and respond to emergency situations immediately in accordance with the emergency action plan (EAP) and provide first aid when needed. Complete incident reports as required and contact the Aquatics Leadership Team.
• Maintains effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.
• Check the pool and deck for hazardous conditions when arriving and throughout the shift.
• Performs chemical testing every two hours during lifeguarding shift. Notifies supervisor of any issues.

Qualifications

• Certifications: current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards
• AED, CPR, First Aid certified
