To further the mission of the camp through assisting with the planning and delivery of activities at the camp swimming pool that is safe, fun, and appropriate to the camper’s age and abilities. Assist with providing management to the physical operation of the pool facilities and equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in supervising a safe and fun swimming pool program.
  • Assist in evaluating swimming abilities of campers and staff.Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training as needed.
  • Maintain the physical facilities and equipment in all pool areas and storage.
  • Monitor proper use of pool and lifesaving equipment.
  • Assist in conducting initial and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment for safety.
  • Check equipment and report unsafe items to the Program Director.
  • Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Survey pool area and surrounding area daily and keep the area free of hazards and debris.
  • Participate with the program team as requested to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions
  • Attend and actively participate in Staff Orientation
  • Maintain a standard of personal living and cleanliness as a role model to the campers and staff.
  • Participate in all chapels, flag ceremonies, meals and meetings
  • Assist in providing general guidance to the five counselors assigned to waterfront duties.
  • Maintain a clean and safe poolside environment at all times, making sure that the pool is vacated and locked when not in use
  • Assist with and be involved with the supervision of campers at chapels
  • Assist cabin leaders in the supervision of campers and participate/lead nightly cabin devotions.
  • Assist with and be involved with the supervision of campers at during campfires
  • When time permits, away from main responsibilities, be involved with cabin buddy assignment to assist with camper activities.

Working Conditions

Prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. Operate with daily exposure to various weather conditions. Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 18 years of age preferred.
  • Ability to exercise confidentiality
  • Good character, integrity and adaptability
  • Interest in and ability to work with children
  • Current Lifeguard Certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid/CPR

PAY RATE: $365/week

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate program equipment and activities.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper and staff activities/programs.
  • Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering program in the facility available.
