Department Overview:

Our dedicated Whole Life / Life Cycle (WLC/LC) Cost Consulting team at RLB proactively manage and undertake cost models plus other bespoke services. We pride ourselves on the quality of our service to our clients and enjoy long term relationships with them.

We are a broad sector focused business actively operating across all sectors including Commercial, Health, Residential, Education, Sports, Defence and Retail.

We are currently recruiting a Whole Life / Life Cycle Consultant to join a national client-focussed team based initially within the Birmingham office. The work location is flexible, subject to discussions with the candidate. This is an exciting opportunity for a high calibre individual to join and strengthen our team.

This role presents an excellent opportunity for a proactive individual to join a specialised team to take responsibility for providing all WLC/LC cost services on a number of projects. The projects can range from small £5m extensions to multi-billion pound master-plans and includes working with a number of high profile international clients, often as part of multi-disciplinary teams.

The role we offer will be varied and is dependent on the Client, sector and project we are working on. You can expect to be given responsibility , and will need to be able to work both autonomously and as part of a team, all whilst receiving the guidance and support to allow you to develop.


Key Responsibilities:

  • To support business objectives of delivering value for money
  • To carry out assigned duties efficiently and in accordance with RLB’s processes and procedures
  • Comply with established procurement/commercial/contractual strategies


The delivery of WLC/LC services includes but not limited to:

  • Managing/leading major WLC/LC projects
  • Provide advice to Clients on service efficiency, value and cost savings opportunities
  • Undertake bench-marking and cost modelling exercises
  • Providing life cycle and whole life costing advisory services
  • Supporting the development of BREEAM assessment
  • Asset assessment and operational cost planning
  • Undertaking operational design review
  • Prepare thorough, high quality, technical reports in a clear concise manner, communicate any issues and conclusions


The Candidate shall also take an active role in:

  • Supporting the goal of growing the team and identify suitable business opportunities whenever possible
  • Maintaining and developing good client relationships to provide good prospects and repeat business
  • Maintaining quality outputs
  • Anticipating the needs of existing clients and pursue future opportunities
  • Making appropriate referrals to other areas of the business whenever possible

Person Specification:


The ideal candidate will demonstrate a positive proactive approach to the role, and will be committed to delivering customer service excellence, with good commercial results.

  • Degree qualified in engineering, cost management or similar technical discipline
  • Strong technical delivery experience
  • Good working knowledge of MS Excel is essential
  • Ability to successfully manage complex projects in a proactive and diligent manner
  • A team player, outgoing, flexible, enthusiastic and ambitious
  • Track record of working with disparate stakeholders
  • Client facing, ensuring a high standard of technical delivery
  • Able to build long-term relationships
  • A track record of working with teams and managing projects by prioritising workloads and delivering deadlines
  • Effective decision-making and strong verbal and written communication including report writing
  • Project experience, necessitating high levels of technical competence with a strong focus and track record in the delivery of WLC/LC costing
  • Ability to network with internal RLB contacts and making appropriate referrals to other areas of the business whenever possible
  • Expertise in technical, analytical and problem solving
  • Ability to work in a team to meet common objectives
  • Good organisational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
  • A basic understanding of Soft landings, CAFM systems and BIM
  • Ability to travel within UK, Europe and globally
  • Willing to work in clients’ offices as and when required
