This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Santee-Wateree Center for Mental Health, 2611 Liberty Hill Road, Camden, SC 29020.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse, non-institutional, working under limited supervision, you will provide monitoring of medication administration and other general health and safety practices by SWMHC. Function as Employee Health and Infection Control Nurse center-wide, including administration of injections, facilitation of prior authorizations and PAP medications, coordination of work-related injuries and other pertinent activities across the catchment area.

Responsibilities for the Licensed Practical Nurse, Non-institutional:

  • Responsible for all facilities Prior Authorizations and PAP medications.
  • Take inventory and initiate all PO orders for stock meds, supplies, PPDs, and maintain records; in charge of administration and recording of pre-employment employees’ PPDs. Maintain records and coordinate services with Stericycle Company.
  • Serve as Employee Health and Infection Control Nurse center-wide, including administration of injections, coordination of work-related injuries and other pertinent activities.
  • Provide client care based on credentials and as directed by the treatment plan and physician’s orders under the direction of a registered nurse,
  • Maintain current and up-to-date knowledge/skills related to patient treatment; ensure all clinic medication licenses are up to date, monitor monthly pharmacy reports for all clinics and report vulnerable areas to Medical Director. Review nursing policies as requested by the Medical Director and communicate any necessary changes if any are needed; review the Sharps Injury Log.
  • Meet productivity requirements as outlined by Center Administration.
  • Exhibit compliance with SCBHDD/ OMH Corporate Compliance Plan and the Santee-Wateree MHC Corporate Compliance policy. All billing and documentation practices are in compliance with policy.
  • Assist with even distribution of MMO caseload to nursing and with any other nursing related issues as requested under the direction of the Medical Director,
  • Ability to travel throughout the Santee-Wateree MHC catchment area as directed.

Examples of duties

  • Successful completion of an approved nursing education program for professional nursing or an equivalent course of study from an approved nursing education program per Section 40-33-32 of the South Carolina Nurse License Act.

  • Ability to operate non-adaptive vehicles.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to complete MAPS training.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Maintain and establish working relations with consumer/family members and other professionals.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers as needed.
  • Ability to travel throughout the Santee-Wateree MHC catchment area as directed.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Health care or related experience.
  • Knowledge of nursing procedures, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices, basic human anatomy.
