Schedule: Monday and Tuesday, 8am - 4:30pm. Wednesday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists Providers by reviewing records, preparing patients/exam rooms, phlebotomy, handling prescription renewals and phone triage. The LPN is responsible for promoting and restoring patient's health by completing the nursing process, collaborating with physicians and team members, and providing physical and psychological support to patients and their families. He/she practices within the boundaries of the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, specialty standards, and organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

1. Supports the physician and other providers in the care and treatment of patients, including rooming the patient, communicating delays to patient, provider and team members, and facilitating the provider's schedule.

2. Performs duties and responsibilities with excellence, enthusiasm, great service orientation demonstrating courteous behaviors and mannerisms and by anticipating physician and other medical provider’s needs.

3. Practices within scope of practice perimeters as inferred by licensure, standard nursing practice, knowledge, and skill level.

4. Performs routine and specialized nursing procedures following physician's orders.

5. Assists physician with exams, treatments and minor surgery, by preparing patient and room for a specific procedure and attending patient during procedure.

6. Records info in patient's medical chart, e.g., patient's history, physical data, vital signs, symptoms, treatments, exams, meds administered.

7. Applies principles of infection control.

8. Checks patients into exam room. Obtains vital signs, medical history, chief complaint, and clinical assessment of patient condition.

9. Assists practitioner with minor surgical procedures and physical examinations.

10. Administers immunizations and vaccinations.

11. Thoroughly documents all necessary and pertinent patient information.

12. Assists practitioners with patient phone calls as per their instruction.

13. Observes and documents patient’s response to medications and/or treatments administered.

14. Provides courteous, efficient exchange of information over the telephone that meets the needs of the caller and creates caller satisfaction.

Monday and Tuesday, 8am - 4:30pm. Wednesday - Friday, 7am - 3:30pm

Job Requirements

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing required.


License/Certifications

  • Current valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license, valid compact multistate license, or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.


Experience

  • 1-3 years of health care experience preferred, but new graduates are considered.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Able to perform the duties as assigned and to assist practitioner in all aspects of patient care as needed.

  • Functions independently and assumes responsibility for clinical decisions.

  • Maintains standards of professional nursing practice.

  • Uses sound nursing judgment in patient care situations, and asks for help if unsure of a procedure or action needed.

  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of nursing policies and procedures.

  • Proficient in the drawing, collection, and documentation of lab.

  • Utilizes proper nursing assessment skills in the triage of patient phone calls.
