
The Metro Boston Mental Health Units (MBMHU) at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital are seeking a motivated, compassionate, skilled caregiver to become part of a dynamic nursing team as a Licensed Practical Nurse II.
Under the direction of a Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, or Nursing Supervisor performs related duties such as responding to health and safety issues and initiating appropriate action, communicating with appropriate staff and preparing and maintaining pertinent documentation.
Please Note: The selected candidate will provide supervision to staff. This position is 40 hours per week and the incumbent will work the 2nd shift schedule from 2:45pm - 11:15PM. Days off are, Week1: Sunday and Friday, Week 2: Wed and Saturday.
Employees in this position will be required to work mandatory overtime.
Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):
Required Qualifications:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of practical nursing.
Ability to gather information through observing and questioning individuals and by examining records and documents.
Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful and emergency situations.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to accurately describe the physical, behavioral and mental status of patients, in oral and written reports.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of the problems in providing nursing services to special client groups.
knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of interacting with patients in a therapeutic manner.
Knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to admissions, commitment and discharge procedures of the DMH.
Knowledge of behavioral management techniques, and the use and side effects of psychotropic medications.
Knowledge of regulatory standards and implementation of these standards in the facility.
Hospital Mission
At the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, we take pride in helping people recover from illnesses and conditions that are often underserved or difficult to manager in other healthcare settings. The DMH units within the Hospital provide inpatient psychiatric services to adults with serious mental illness with the goal of enhancing autonomy, safety and return to the community.
Patients are treated by a multidisciplinary team, led by attending psychiatrists which also includes psychologists, clinical social workers, psychiatric nurses, mental health workers, peer specialists, occupational therapists and rehabilitative staff specializing in vocational, recreational and expressive therapies. A variety of treatment modalities are used, including psychopharmacologic, psychotherapeutic (individual, group and family), psycho-educational, behavioral, cognitive and milieu therapies.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
