Licensed Practical Nurse II - Adult Services-(2600043T)

Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse II who will provide direct care services to individuals by participating and instructing activities of daily living including, but not limited to personal care, community integration and recreation/leisure to ensure daily needs, rehabilitation needs, and human rights are met. WRCH is a Joint Commission accredited 320-bed recovery center and hospital that serves 260 adults and 60 adolescents through an innovative design and provides a state-of-the-art environment for patients and staff. DMH inpatient facilities promote recovery and resiliency and are integral to the continuum of care for all consumers across Massachusetts. They are vital to achieving the DMH mission and our commitment to Community First - promoting recovery for consumers and a life of independence and self-determination in communities of their choice.



Please Note: This position is full-time, 40 hours per week. The selected candidate will work on Unit A2, Second Shift, 2:45 PM - 11:15 PM, with Week 1: Sunday and Thursday & Week II: Tuesday and Saturday as days off.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Treats all patients with dignity and respect through interactions which affirm the individual’s needs and preferences and by optimally integrating the patient perspective into all facets of care; will advocate for patients, facilitate timely resolution of patient concerns, and assist patients in the exercise of their rights.
  • Provides direct care to patients in assigned areas including activities of daily living, meal supervision, escorts, responsibility for group activities as assigned, and orientation of patients to the ward.
  • Develops therapeutic relationships with individual patients, groups, and family members to facilitate continuity of care.
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.
  • Provides support and guidance to mental health workers in the performance of job responsibilities.
  • Attends rounds and treatment team meetings. Actively participates as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Collaborates in collecting data related to the assessment, planning, and evaluation process.
  • Provides input into the development of the nursing care plan and multidisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Responds to and participates in medical and psychiatric emergencies. Assures emergency equipment is checked and reviewed as assigned.
  • Provides related health care education to patients and family according to nursing care plan and multi-disciplinary treatment plan.
  • Administers treatments and medications as ordered and according to hospital policy.
  • Documents pertinent patient care information in the medical record.
  • Transcribes M.D. orders as assigned.
  • Completes all mandatory training annually.
  • Participates in continuing education programs according to Board of Registration requirements.
  • Provides instructions to unit personnel in nursing techniques and procedures in accordance with hospital policy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of procedures and practices of Nursing consistent with Practical Nursing education.
  • Ability to work with dependent and incapacitated patients.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to gather and present information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate respect and deal tactfully with people from varied ethnic, cultural, and financial backgrounds.
  • Ability to demonstrate respect and sensitivity to individuals with varied illnesses and health potentials.
  • Ability to assess own level of skill and seek appropriate assistance.
  • Knowledge of ability to apply the laws, rules and regulations governing facility operations and assigned unit activities as well as knowledge of accreditation standard where applicable.
  • Knowledge of and ability to maintain current or established documentation standards followed within the agency, facility, or community mental health center.
  • Knowledge and ability to participate in or conduct interviews.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of and/or expertise in specialty areas of nursing practices based on client population and facility needs.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of supervision.

About Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH):
Located on over 20 acres in Worcester, Massachusetts, Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital (WRCH) is part of an integrated network of effective, efficient, and culturally competent mental health services. It provides intermediate and long-term inpatient care for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness who live in Massachusetts, as well as individuals requiring specialized court ordered evaluations.

WRCH provides inpatient services to 290 adults and 30 adolescents, inclusive of a Deaf Inpatient Mental Health Service program for 10 patients.

Qualifications

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
