The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to participants at the iOAT Clinic by administering medications, monitoring responses, and supporting harm reduction practices within the LPN scope of practice in British Columbia. The role contributes to participant health and wellness by collaborating with Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, physicians, and other team members to deliver safe, trauma-informed, and culturally safe care.

Qualifications

  • Licensed in Practical Nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Current practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • Minimum 1 year of related nursing experience in community health, mental health, or substance use care preferred.
  • Certificates in CPR, First Aid, and Naloxone training required.
  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check clearance.

Skills

  • Strong ability to build therapeutic, respectful, and culturally safe relationships with client
  • Knowledge and application of LPN scope of practice, including medication administration (e.g., OAT, iOAT, safe supply)
  • Ability to monitor client health, conduct focused assessments, and respond to changes or emergencies
  • Experience with harm reduction approaches, including education and naloxone support
  • Proficiency in clinical documentation, medication administration records (MARs), and reporting
  • Ability to perform basic nursing procedures (vital signs, wound care, testing, health teaching)
  • Strong collaboration skills within an interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Effective communication skills for sharing observations and coordinating care
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, client-centered environment with sound judgment and adaptability

Working Condition and Physical Requirements

  • Required to occasionally lift and move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Work in an environment that requires the ability to plan, organize, and adapt to shifting priorities.
