This position provides health services, including assessment, treatment planning, counseling, and care coordination for clients with mental health and substance use disorders. Ensures services are delivered in accordance with organizational policies, regulatory standards, and best practices.

PROGRAM/CLIENT ENVIRONMENT

Clients served by The Harbor Light Program present with a wide range of behavioral health needs and may demonstrate challenging behaviors Staff are expected to respond in a manner consistent with a structured treatment environment All employee conduct, communication and interactions must align with therapeutic standards and support a safe and respectful care setting

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Complete Mental Health Evaluations
  2. Carry an ongoing caseload; and provide direct services to clients via individual and group counseling.
  3. Provide comprehensive assessments, dual diagnosis treatment, individual counseling and group facilitation.
  4. Treatment provided is overseen and delivered according to individual treatment plans and within current policies and procedures.
  5. Maintain treatment plans that meet agency and DASA standards. Ensure they,are clear with timely progress notes. All reports are prepared and ready for audits.
  6. Cultivates and maintains relationships with referral sources and community partners to support client needs.
  7. Participates in staff meetings and clinic staffing
  8. Work closely with psychiatrists and case managers. Present cases clearly in team meetings and incorporate feedback into treatment plans.
  9. Maintains active engagement and ongoing involvement in the field of mental health and substance use disorders.
  10. Maintain treatment plans that meet Medicaid standards, are clear with timely progress notes. Prepare audit ready reports
  11. Follow state and funding source requirements, ensure that all administrative policies and practices are maintained and implemented with the guidance of the Director of Clinical Programs.
  12. Maintain ethical standards in all interactions.
  13. All other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE,SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

EDUCATION: Requires a master’s degree from an accredited University

EXPERIENCE : Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the behavioral health field.

CERTIFICATIONS: Must be a Licensed Clinical Social Work or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

SKILLS

  • Experience conducting full biopsychosocial evaluations
  • Identify mental health, substance use and social drivers.
  • Assess suicide and safety risk. Apply DSM 5 accurately
  • Ability to treat co-occuring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Understand relapse patterns and trigger
  • Integrate mental health and addiction treatment plans.
  • Comfort with structured treatment environments
  • Ability to manage clients with poor social skills and behavioral issues
  • Understand trauma, poverty and systemic barriers
  • Experience with addiction recovery models
  • Strong tolerance for high emotional intensity and unpredictability
  • Strong systems thinker not just therapy skills
  • Confidence in handling crisis without over escalation

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports to the Director of Clinical Programs.

This position relates to all support and clinical staff of all departments. Back-up consultation to all clinical staff of the Harbor Light Center related to dual diagnosis clients. Provides direct service to clients within clinic policies and programs; administratively responsible to the Director of Clinical Programs.

In contacts related to this person’s duties this individual acts as a representative of The Salvation Army.

  • Have an attention to detail and able to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Work within the ethical boundaries of the field.
  • Competent in providing individual counseling, group counseling, substance abuse assessments, mental health evaluations and client documentation.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with supervisor, support and clinical staff as well as other community providers.

JOB LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
  • This individual will keep the Director of Clinical Programs informed on all critical issues relating to his/her area of responsibility.
  • This individual will adhere to all Army policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This position is required to do light physical work, be able to walk two flights of steps, and lift up to 25lbs.
  • In order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment and a PC.
  • The work environment for this position includes an office environment with a low to moderate noise level.
  • Must be able to work with clients that have poor social skills, suffer from mental illness, and have substance abuse problems
  • Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters and maintains positive relationships with co-workers and supervisors. This would include but not be limited to such actions: resolution of conflicts in a positive manner; courteous treatment of staff, clients and visitors; respect of others’ property and person, professional and appropriate communication to and about co-workers, supervisors and subordinates.
