We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Transportation Driver to support the County Library’s vital material delivery operations. This position plays an essential role in keeping our library system connected by ensuring books and other materials are safely and efficiently transported between branches. Under supervision, transports library materials between branch locations throughout the county; ensures secure handling of books and other library items; assists with loading, unloading, and distribution; performs related duties as required. The primary duties involve transporting library materials according to departmental schedules and directives; however, they may be assigned non-driving tasks as needed.

Examples of duties

• Transports books, media, and other library materials between library branches, administrative offices, and other designated locations.
• Assists staff in loading and unloading materials from transport vehicles.
• Ensures the safety and security of library materials and staff during transport.
• Handles materials carefully to prevent damage; may assist with basic organization or sorting of items.
• Ensures materials adhere to delivery schedules and arrive on time; performs routine vehicle maintenance and safety checks.
• May assist library staff with related operational needs, such as preparing materials for circulation or supporting special projects.

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

Safe driving practices applicable to transportation of clients and other personnel.

Ability to:

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety, of individuals; effectively and efficiently follow departmental policies and procedures.

Skill to:

Accurately assess transport and safety needs; handle scheduling demands, ensuring timely transport of library material.

Education, Training, and Experience:

Equivalent to high school education; demonstrated safe driving record highly desirable.

Supplemental information

Possession of current and valid California driver's license.
