Posting Summary: The Gottesman Library is seeking a Library Specialist for Circulation and Reserves to support the delivery of circulation, course reserves, and resource-sharing services for the Teachers College community.
Basic Function: The Library Specialist for Circulation and Reserves is needed to strengthen the delivery of library circulation and course readings, both electronic and print, for our users. The Specialist helps coordinate the maintenance of the physical circulating collections to facilitate readership and access to the library’s collections; assists with reviewing and processing course resource lists and interlibrary loans, including OCR and remediation; assists with training and managing up to one dozen Library Associates, including their engagement with cross unit projects, needs, and initiatives; and participates in instructional services and offerings, including virtual reference service, instant messaging, and workshops.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Library Specialist for Circulation and Reserves will provide front-line support in reader services (circulation) and back-line support in technical services (course reserves) to meet high demand and coordinate functionality within the library services platform, the College’s learning management system, and additional software.
- Manages the ILS fulfillment module to ensure circulation and course reserves
- Investigates and tests new platform releases
- Coordinates circulation-related functions, including searches, recalls, paging, and holds.
- Receives, reviews, and processes requests for course readings and interlibrary loans, including scanning to standard and remediation to meet accessibility.
- Monitors and helps maintain schedules for interim staff
- Collaborates on and contributes to the creation, development, implementation, and assessment of both circulation and reserve-related projects and instructional services.
- Serves as a contact for responding to users regarding fines and billing, including managing lost, billed, and “claims returned” items; participates in instant messaging (chat service, as well as virtual reference service) to address user queries.
- Serves library users at a consolidated service desk by assisting with directional, circulation, basic reference and technology questions, including referral to an appropriate expert.
- Co-leads bi-monthly unit meetings
- Collaborates with library staff to drive circulation initiatives
- Participates in university-wide meetings and committees to stay current with policies, projects, and developments.
- Performs other duties, as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with daily operations of an academic library
- Experience supervising library staff and/or students
- Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a team environment
- Demonstrated ability to work creatively in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to learn independently and quickly
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity in the workplace or community
- Ability to work evenings and weekends
- Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in library and information science, or pursuing one from an ALA-accredited library science program
- 1-2 years of academic library experience
- Experience providing assistance to library users at a single library service desk
- Experience with fulfilling course reserves
- Knowledge of Alma-PrimoVE- Leganto, Canvas, Springshare Suite
- Familiarity with accessibility tools and checkers: Adobe, ABBYY Fine Reader
- General understanding of the mission and functions of a research library and the information needs of academic users
Salary Range:
$37.00/hr
