Job Category: EducationSUMMARY: This position assists the Reference and Instruction Librarian with oversight of the library service desk, interlibrary loan processes, and other public service aspects of library operations.
The specific duties include:
- In conjunction with all other personnel, support and advance the vision and mission of the University.
- Acts as a first response to library circulation activities, questions, or concerns, and assists librarians by offering instruction to library users regarding the location of materials and basic use of the Locate (EBSCO) library catalog and account system.
- Oversees circulation activities in the library management system (FOLIO): checks library materials in and out, generates holds, processes renewals for library users, and assists patrons with circulation questions or concerns.
- Manages library service desk workflow and assists with communication and library correspondence regarding transactions, policies, procedures, and training with all library assistants and work study library assistants.
- Maintains circulation library user records, including updating records, and prepares monthly and annual statistical reports.
- Runs reports within Folio Analytics and OpenRS applications, resolves any missing items, and submits lists of fines and circulation charges to the finance department.
- Performs all library opening procedures during weekdays and troubleshoots/reports issues with equipment, furnishings, or physical space.
- Assists alumni, field doctors and other guests with library services.
- Verifies bibliographic information and prepares and processes incoming and outgoing interlibrary loan requests for borrowing and lending utilizing DOCLINE, Tipasa, and MOBIUS Open RS resource sharing.
- Develops programming and events in partnership with other departments geared toward student engagement, including social media promotion and other outreach and marketing of library information.
- Assists with ordering books, supplies, and other library materials. Update the budget sheet for internal record-keeping.
- Maintains currency in interlibrary loan software trends, developments, and processes.
- Recommends and/or implements policy and procedural changes that enhance the library's effectiveness.
- Other duties as assigned.

QualificationsCOMPETENCIES: Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.  Must be able to respond to requests for service and assistance professionally and courteously while handling various detailed tasks. Requires good organizational and communication skills. Must prioritize and plan work activities to deal with competing demands, while showing accuracy and thoroughness.  Must be able to exercise sound judgment and good decision-making skills.

Minimum of an Associate degree required or six months to two years related library experience and/or training. College degree and library experience preferred.  Willingness to learn new skills and functions as the operations needs of the library evolve.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic to intermediate Microsoft Office application skills (Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel). Experience with computers and the ability to learn the protocols and processes for utilizing multiple software packages for managing and manipulating data.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to type on a computer, to handle books, and to talk and hear when assisting students and other library patrons. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms while shelving books and checking them out. The employee is occasionally required to sit and use a computer and to climb, balance, and stoop or kneel to shelve books. The employee must frequently lift books weighing from 10 to 30 pounds and occasionally lift books weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to push carts weighing up to 100 lbs. Close vision is needed to use the computer and to read shelves. Color vision is required when using research information databases in order to distinguish different screens. Must have distance vision and depth perception for safety purposes when pushing carts full of books.
