Compensation: $17.00 / hour

Library Page positions are educational opportunities for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in an accredited educational program.

The Library Page position is located in the Library’s special collections conservation lab, which supports NYPL's three research centers dedicated to the preservation and access of tens of millions of special collections including rare books, manuscripts, archives, photographic materials, works of art on paper, maps, music scores, and objects/artifacts.

The Library Page position provides the opportunity to work in a large and busy conservation lab staffed by conservators and technicians specializing in bound, flat, and photographic materials. The Library Page carries out rehousing and basic stabilization of collections and is trained in these capacities by Conservation staff. In addition, the Library Page may have the opportunity to do more intensive treatments and prepare items for exhibitions, participate in group projects, and to contribute to the continued development of the lab’s overall workflows, assets, and capabilities.

You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship.

The Library Page position requires a minimum of 14-19 hours per week, but more hours/days are possible. Schedules are variable based on the Library’s needs and may be subject to change.


Key Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Senior Paper Collections Conservator, the Library Page:
  • Perform rehousing and basic stabilization of collections
  • Provide support and assistance to other staff members as needed
  • Contribute to the continued development of the lab’s overall organization, workflows, assets, and capabilities
  • Provide additional administrative support to the lab as necessary

Required Education, Experience & Skills

Required Education & Experience
  • Page Positions are reserved for candidates who are currently enrolled as students in a degree program/accredited school. (High School, GED Program, Associate's Degree, Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree, etc)
  • Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
  • Interest in cultural heritage
Required Skills
  • Demonstrated manual dexterity and hand skills
  • Computer fluency, especially with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
  • Sound organizational skills
  • Demonstrated flexibility and reliability
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster cooperative and courteous working relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CAD software
  • Knowledge of history, art history, and/or art techniques
