Job Description

Johnson County Library is a 14 branch suburban library system with a long history in our community. We serve neighborhoods ranging from urban to suburban to on-the-edge-of rural. We are a fun, forward-thinking organization with a mission to enrich people’s lives.

Johnson County Library is seeking a dynamic, team focused Courier. As a Library Courier, you would specialize in our library’s materials handling processes including the sorting, organization, loading and delivery of our collection and materials to 14 branch locations. In addition, you would provide quality customer service to library staff, your courier team and patrons through timely, accurate and efficient deliveries, identifying strategies to increase efficiency, cost savings and improve patron service.

  • Provides friendly, flexible and approachable service to library staff and other couriers.
  • Collaborates, communicates and aligns priorities with courier team to provide support and coverage of the daily delivery routes.
  • Sorts, organizes, loads and unloads tubs of books and other library materials into a library truck
  • Drives deliveries to their destination using designated courier routes, following established laws and safe driving procedures and practices.
  • Works closely with Library staff to ensure efficient materials handling and delivery.
  • Communicates problems with delivery vehicles and locations as soon as possible to ensure proper maintenance, while keeping necessary records.
  • Offers assistance to technical services, ILL and Circulation departments as time allows.
  • Works with Supervisor, SMEs and Training team to identify training, development and growth opportunities and requirements.
  • Acquires and applies knowledge and skills gained in learning opportunities to positively impact individual team performance.
  • Is knowledgeable and supportive of system wide strategic initiatives.
  • Works with courier team to compile statistics and reports as needed.
  • Participates in committees as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required. One (1) year of related experience may substitute for education. Must pass a thorough criminal history screening and have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Previous related experience is preferred. Experience may be substituted for education.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures, fumes and/or chemicals, heights, and loud noises.
  • On call/stand-by work required.
  • Weather essential: Department Essential
  • Position is required to respond to requests for emergency and afterhours work which will require work when the facility is closed (e.g. holiday, weekends, nights).
  • Physical abilities, including mobility, agility, strength, dexterity, balance, coordination, and /or endurance.
  • All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
