Job Description

Five part-time secondment/fixed term Library & Council Services Assistant positions are available in the Howick Local Board based at Flat Bush Library in Ormiston Town Centre.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

These part-time positions will include weekend days and some public holidays and require flexibility to work across the Howick Local Board libraries. The secondment/fixed term period is for 1 year till early April 2027.

The hours and positions available are:

  • 3 x 20 hours
  • 1 x 30 hours
  • 1 x 24 hours

In these customer-focussed roles, you will be contributing to the day-to-day running of the frontline library service. You will have the opportunity to work closely with colleagues and customers to enable a great experience. We want to be known for our outstanding customer service. You will be working closely with our local community through a range of programmes, from children's activities to supporting and/or delivering exciting learning programmes and activities that are driven by community need.

We are looking for people who can demonstrate:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Evidence of working with people from diverse ethnic backgrounds
  • Comfortable with technology and able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices that are available at the library
  • Experience working with children and young people
  • Willing to work with the library team in the delivery of programmes and events
  • Flexible and collaborative approach to your work
  • Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills

Salary: This role is salary band E, we expect to appoint the successful candidate at a salary of between $65-$77K depending upon skills & experience.
