Job Description

Job Location: FL - Lake Wales, FL 33853
Salary Range: $14.00 - $18.41 Hourly

GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine work in the public library youth services environment and provides services to library patrons and staff. As a Library Clerk, you must demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills and customer service skills, as a great part of this job will involve interacting with the local community.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the close supervision of the Youth Services Librarian.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in checking in and out library materials and placing holds on requested materials.  Assists patrons with title selection and reader’s advisory services via telephone, email and in person.
Answers telephone calls and email correspondence to provide information pertaining to the Youth Services department, or refers patrons as appropriate.
Responsible for daily shelving of returned library materials in the Youth Services collection.
Responsible for maintaining order in the children’s book shelves by performing daily scheduled shelf reading as assigned by Youth Services Librarian or other supervisory staff.
Performs routine maintenance on books and other materials, such as mending covers, preparing new books and materials for shelving.
Assists in setting up tables and chairs for classes.
Assists in maintaining library collection and facilities by vacuuming and dusting; straightening books, chairs, shelves, papers and magazines; and emptying waste containers and book drops.
Ability to relate in a friendly and open manner with children and parents.
Enforces all library policies established by the Lake Wales Library Board and the City of Lake Wales including patron behavior and rules.
Works with teenage patrons in the Library’s Teen Room. Must be able to enforce library behavior policies to these customers.
Assist in the children’s section in conducting special programs or projects for children, as assigned.
Must have a working knowledge of all Lake Wales Public Library electronic resources available on the library’s website. Should be able to demonstrate these resources and teach patrons how to use them.

QualificationsDESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and

Experience:
- High school diploma or GED
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to learn and follow organized systems and procedures.
- Ability to manage check‑in and check‑out processes using computer software.
- Comfort working with organizational systems, such as shelving items in a specific order.
- Strong ability to alphabetize and organize materials numerically, including using number‑based systems similar to the decimal system.
- Knowledge of computers in a Windows environment;
- Ability to navigate the Internet for reference service to customers.
- Skilled in the operation of tools and equipment including photocopier, scanner, printer.
- Ability to accurately maintain library filing systems;
- Ability to orally communicate effectively;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons, employees, supervisors, and the general public, particularly with children and teens.
- Ability to collect cash payments, make change correctly, and secure cash payments.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Florida driver's license.
