GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Support functions of the North Regional Teen Services unit. Work is performed under the supervision of the Teen Services Manager. Although the position is based at the North Regional Library, the successful candidate may be asked to work at other locations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist Teen Librarian in planning and executing programs and with special projects that support the library's strategic plan.
  • Answer directional and informational questions.
  • Assist customers in the use of library technology such as public computers, printers, and copiers.
  • Perform circulation functions such as registering new library borrowers and pulling holds.
  • Serve on system teams and committees as assigned.
  • Provide excellent customer service in a team-based environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Thorough knowledge of current library policies and procedures, library principles, methods, materials, and practices as well as public library services and programs.
  • Knowledge of young adult literature.
  • Skilled with library technology.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including through email.
  • Ability to acquire special competence in a specific phase of library work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to supervise and train subordinate workers and volunteers.
  • Strong written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service via phone, online chat, email and in-person communications.
  • Ability to use personal computers and word processing spreadsheet software.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in library science or a related field and six months in general library experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
