The Thun Libraryat Penn State Berksis looking fora LibrariesSpecialisttoassistlibrarypatrons with advanced requests,serveas a resource for other part-time libraryemployees, andnavigateservice interruptionsApplicantsmustcommitto working15hours perweek (during open library hours),including evenings and weekends, with core hourschangingduringbreaksand summerto align withthe academic yearThis position is ideal fornon-students,studentswith experience supervising or working independently in a customer service setting, and current Student Library Assistants. All are encouraged to apply.No priorlibraryexperience isrequired;librarytraining will be provided.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Welcome students, staff, faculty, and community members to the library

  • Check out/inbooks, equipment, andotherlibrary materials

  • Confirm study room reservations

  • Provide guidance on user accounts andlibraryservices

  • Follow library operation processes and procedures

  • May oversee library operations during opening or closing

  • Assist Student Library Assistants (SLAs) with service questions and override permissions

  • Address building concernsincluding, but not limited to, disruptivepatronbehavioror maintenance issues

  • Assistotherswith technology,referring to PSU IT when necessary

  • Assistusers and colleagues with advanced requests and support services

  • Referin-depth questions to the library team and/orappropriate departments

  • Retrieve and shelve materialscorrectlyina 68,000+itemcollection

  • Inform the library team ofservice concernsorsuggestions

Looking for thesequalifications

  • Customer service experience

  • Non-students,studentswith experience supervising or working independently in a customer service setting, and current Student Library Assistants

  • Ability to clearly communicatethrough face-to-faceand written communication
