Job Description

Plans and directs the delivery of system-wide Outreach Services through a variety of programs and projects. Participates with management team in developing and implementing goals, objectives, standards, and policies for library services. Researches and applies for grants and supports library staff submitting grant proposals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Reaches out to the community and collaborates with other organizations to plan, develop and implement new services related to library outreach.
  • Designs and implements procedures and practices to facilitate public service delivery in response to

    community needs and library objectives; provides quarterly staff trainings and one annual all-staff continuing education training.
  • Selects, develops, motivates, evaluates and directs the work of Outreach Services staff, both directly as well as through subordinate supervisors; conducts hiring, performance evaluations, and development of staff, and initiates corrective action as required for all staff; establishes and maintains effective lines of communication within the department and between departments; conducts regular discussions with assigned program staff to communicate information to and solicit input from staff.
  • Communicates and interprets Augusta-Richmond County Public Library policies and other applicable operating and administrative procedures and practices to staff and patrons; monitors services and programs for compliance; responds to patron issues, concerns, and complaints.
  • Serves as the grant consultant for the library system; searches and write grants that support community needs and library objectives; administers grants, track grants budgets, and submit grants; reviews grant proposals by other staff prior to submission.
  • Performs initial processing of library volunteer applications; conducts training of library volunteers.
  • Serves as a Deputy on duty and assist as a front-line staff substitute as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Master of Library and Information Science form an ALA-accredited college or university.

Experience: Five (5) years experience in libraries or equivalent related experience required.

Licensing/Certification:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Library certification.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

OTHER:

  • Flexibility to work some weekends and evenings as part of regular schedule.
  • Travel from office to other locations required for this position.

  • Situational Reasoning: Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in critical and/or unexpected situations involving moderate risk to the organization.
  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
  • Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

TRAINING & SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Two to five staff.
