ROLE SUMMARY:

The Librarian at ACG Parnell plays a vital role in supporting the school's educational goals and mission. This position involves developing and maintaining our library collection, providing essential library services, and creating an environment that promotes literacy and a love of reading.

The Librarian ensures students have access to a wide range of resources, encouraging them to engage with literature in various formats, thereby contributing to their academic and personal development. This role requires a highly organised, self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and administrative skills. As it is a sole charge position, good independent sjills are also required.

This is a permanent, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2027 and will require the ability to work until 5:30pm, 3 days per week, as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Promote a culture of reading, literacy, and lifelong learning across the school community.
• Develop and manage library collections, resources, equipment, and budgets to support curriculum and student needs.
• Deliver high-quality library services, including circulation, shelving, reference support, and student supervision.
• Teach and support information literacy, research, and referencing skills to enhance student learning.
• Plan and deliver library programs, events, and activities that encourage reading engagement and literature appreciation. This includes the promotion of key events.
• Curate diverse print and digital resources that cater to a wide range of interests, abilities, and developmental stages.
• Maintain effective information management systems, undertake stocktakes, and contribute to library projects and reporting.
• Collaborate with staff, including the Academic Support team, to support student achievement, enrichment programs, and a welcoming library environment.
• Ensure the Library is fully prepared for the start of each term.
• Make class visit bookings and liaise with teachers bringing classes to the Library
• Assist with operations relating to the photocopier and process service requests.

• Proficiency in delivering core library services and information literacy instruction.
• Experience in fostering an engaging and supportive environment for reading and literacy.
• Ability to select and promote diverse literature in various formats.
• Strong organisational and information management skills.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively with academic teams and participate in library projects

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

• Prepared to undertake a New Zealand police check prior to commencing the position
• Commitment to ongoing professional development.
• Supervise the Library at break times and before / after school.
• A willingness to attend school events outside regular hours as required (e.g., performances, parent-teacher interviews, etc.).
