Job Description:

SUMMARY

Represents the Campus Police & Security Services in community affairs. Maintains relationships with government, education, and businesses in areas surrounding Tri-C’s campuses.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Develops, expands, and implements the community engagement programs and initiatives for the Campus Police & Security Services college-wide.

Promotes the College’s mission and a positive image of the institution to the community.

Plans events that connect the community to their respective campuses.

Strengthens internal engagement, morale, and camaraderie within the department.

Updates internal constituents and community of Campus Police & Security Services initiatives.

Manages and coordinates the department’s website, public messaging, and social media presence.

Communicates to key contacts in government, education, and businesses within the College’s service area.

Prepares written correspondence including “thank you” and congratulatory notes and newsletters to community contacts on behalf of the Chief of Police.

Enhances public trust and transparency by fostering meaningful connections between the department and the communities the College serves.

Facilitates relationships between community contacts and relevant College personnel.

Serves on local boards on behalf of the campus police and the Chief of Police.

Stays abreast of important trends or changes that affect the College and its surrounding community.

Works on relevant projects and committees that support the Campus Police & Security Services Community Relations strategic plan.

Supports department-wide recruitment and retention efforts through strategic outreach and relationship-building.

Assists in advancing a positive organizational culture by promoting communication, recognition, and employee engagement initiatives.

Assists with budget tracking related to areas of responsibility.

Maintains a flexible work schedule.

Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE/TRAINING

Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, or related field

Significant related experience may substitute for education.

Minimum of three years of experience with developing, planning and executing community engagement events in the Northeast Ohio area.

Demonstrated experience effectively communicating in a manner that aligns with business’ operations.

Demonstrated experience in a role requiring varied problem-solving methods in a variety of situations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES

Understanding of and ability to leverage major social media platforms such as X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.

Possess excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Ability to develop and implement creative strategic community development relations plan.

Possess strong organizational and time-management skills.

Ability to work accurately with great attention to detail.

Ability to research community, educational and political activities, and present summary reports for analysis

Ability to prioritize/handle multiple tasks and work with deadlines in a dynamic environment.

Ability to promote collaboration, teamwork, and involve all stakeholders in decision-making processes.

Possess excellent customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships.

Ability to effectively complete work assignments independently

Possess comprehensive knowledge of non-profit civic community relations theories, concepts, and practices with the ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations as it pertains to the departmental focus.

Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Advanced-level proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint.

Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle subject matters requiring privacy and sensitivity.

Ability to collaborate, persuade, gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas on significant projects.

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.

The work area is adequately lit, heated, and ventilated.

Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite.

Target Starting Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000

The final offer for the successful candidate is targeted to fall within this range but will be based upon an assessment of internal equity, the unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications in relation to the minimum and/or preferred job requirement(s).

Special Note: If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1 Recruitment and Selection Procedure.
