Level IV 2nd Shift Lead Custodian

Start date - 8.24.26
8 hours per day/40 hours per week (Year Round)
Monday - Friday (2nd shift) 3p-11:30

$25.35/hr


The Shift Lead Custodian assists the Head Custodian in the oversight of the maintenance and operation of building including heating, plumbing, electrical, and emergency systems, in addition to providing work direction to staff to provide safe, clean, and comfortable surroundings for staff and students.

Essential functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Inspects, and monitors heating, plumbing, electrical, emergency equipment and supporting equipment for efficient and proper operation
  • Assumes the responsibility of the Head Custodian in their absence
  • Coordinates custodial supply needs with the Head Custodian
  • Coordinates and assigns tasks to the custodial staff; checks in with staff as needed
  • Cleans, scrubs, strips, waxes, buffs, sweeps, or vacuums floors, etc. in assigned areas
  • Reassigns staff and assists staff with their cleaning areas when there are absent staff members
  • Performs minor maintenance repairs to building and equipment
  • Maintains building security and secures building nightly including programming of controlled exterior doors
  • Assists with winter grounds maintenance at building entries
  • Serves as the primary shift operator for the HVAC system
  • Monitors the Building Automation System and perform some basic scheduling functions
  • Assists staff to set up equipment, bleachers, chairs, and tables, etc. for special events, including all community education activities; and cleans up after activities
  • Reports maintenance and staff concerns to Head Custodian

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must possess a Second Class Boiler license-Minnesota (2-C).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of building components and mechanical equipment
  • Must have demonstrated successful experience in the supervision of personnel
  • Good organizational skills
  • Sufficient mechanical aptitude to conduct repairs and maintenance to plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and other miscellaneous building equipment
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Must have flexibility to work 1st or 2nd shift
  • Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees and community members
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others including students at age level of position and present a professional appearance
  • Ability to work independently with little work direction
  • Must have the ability and proven record of reporting to work on a regular and punctual basis
