Job Description

The Department of Aerospace Engineering in the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor is seeking a LEO Lecturer III focused on teaching core aerospace undergraduate theoretical and laboratory courses and selected graduate courses. Candidates should have a strong interest and demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate students and/or early-stage engineering professionals. Courses are offered during Fall and Winter terms. Candidates are also expected to participate in various departmental services, including but not limited to advising student groups and serving on various departmental committees. The expected percentage effort for this position will be 100% effort.

The Michigan Aerospace Engineering Department has developed a curriculum devoted to covering the various topics in aerospace engineering: aerodynamics, propulsion, structures and materials, dynamics and control, systems engineering, and computation. While all areas will be considered, current needs focus on aerodynamics, propulsion, and laboratory courses.

This position is subject to final administrative approval.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • PhD degree in Aerospace Enginering or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate engineering courses in aerospace or mechanical engineering programs
  • Demonstrated knowlege of aerodynamics and propulsion
  • Exceptional communication (oral, written) skills
  • Experience with, and a passion for, mentoring and developing future engineers and leaders

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated record of scholarly work in the field of aerodynamics and propulsion
  • Knowledge of scientific computing
  • Laboratory teaching experience
  • Ability and willingness to teach in all areas in the aerospace engineering curriculum
