Job Description

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Psychology invites applications for Lecturer I positions to teach undergraduate courses in Fall 2026. Courses vary in topic, credit hours (3 or 4 credits), and modality is online. We are seeking instructors who are committed to student learning and can effectively engage a diverse undergraduate population.

Minimum salary for this position is $6,375 per semester for a three-credit course, and $8,500 per semester for a four-credit course.

The positions will remain posted for a minimum of 10 days. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis thereafter until all positions are filled.

Course Information - PSY 100-W4

PSY 100-W4 is a 3-credit (25% effort) online asynchronous course that runs from August 24 through December 12, 2026.

The course is delivered through Canvas, which is used for course organization, communication, and core course functions. A course textbook may be used; instructors are expected to design and deliver the primary instructional content (for example, modules, explanations, activities, and assessments). Publisher materials may be used to supplement instruction but may not serve as the primary course content.

Course Description

Introduction to scientific study of behavior and mental processes; major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and research. Overview of the research process; how psychological questions are generated and studied; research and theory in subfields such as neuroscience, human development, learning, memory, thinking, motivation and individual differences.

PSY 319-W2 is a 4-credit (33% effort) online asynchronous course that runs from August 24 - December 12, 2026.

The course is delivered through Canvas, which is used for course organization, communication, and other core course functions. A course textbook may be used; instructors are expected to design and deliver the primary instructional content for the course (for example, original modules, explanations, activities, and assessments). Publisher materials may be used to supplement instruction but may not serve as the primary course content.

Catalog Description

Basic research methods used in the behavioral sciences, including descriptive, correlational, quasi-experimental and experimental designs, as well as measurement, reliability, validity and ethics. Students learn to perform a literature search, generate a testable hypothesis, measure variables, choose an appropriate research design, conduct a study, analyze data, and report findings.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in psychology from an accredited institution

  • Evidence of relevant teaching experience

  • Ability to teach effectively in an online asynchronous environment

  • Ability to communicate regularly with students in an online environment, with access to appropriate technology

Desired Qualifications

  • ABD status or PhD in psychology

  • Training in pedagogical approaches and methodologies

  • Experience teaching research methods

  • Experience teaching fully online asynchronous courses

  • Record of presentations and/or publications in peer-reviewed psychology outlets

Modes of Work

Mobile/Remote

The work requirements allow for the majority or all of the work to be completed offsite. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements, but is not generally scheduled on a recurring basis.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
