Job Description

The Lens Drill Mounting Technician is a specialized mounting role responsible for assembling rimless (drill-mount and three-piece) eyewear, where prescription lenses attach directly to the bridge and temples through precisely drilled holes rather than a frame rim. This position requires advanced precision, controlled drilling technique, and strong knowledge of lens materials, as errors can crack or chip finished lenses. The technician delivers high-quality rimless eyewear that meets both functional and aesthetic standards while minimizing scrap and rework.

Primary Responsibilities
• Lens Layout & Drilling:
Mark and drill mounting holes into finished lenses at the correct position, angle, and depth to match the frame hardware. Use manual drill mounts and/or CNC drilling equipment to produce clean, properly aligned holes that allow the lens to seat square without stress.
• Lens Material Selection & Handling:
Identify lens material before drilling and adjust technique accordingly, recognizing that polycarbonate and Trivex tolerate drilling well while glass, CR-39, and certain high-index materials are more prone to cracking. Manage stress points around drilled holes to protect lens integrity and reduce breakage and scrap.
• Rimless Assembly & Fit:
Attach lenses directly to the bridge and temples using screws, bushings, or compression fittings, ensuring a secure, stress-free hold. Align frame components so the finished pair sits straight and balanced, and confirm correct axis positioning for multifocal and progressive lenses.
• Quality Control & Cosmetic Inspection:
Inspect drilled lenses and assembled rimless eyewear for cracks, chips, stress marks, or cosmetic defects around hole sites and mounting points. Verify that all components meet internal quality benchmarks and industry standards before the job advances.
• Secure Assembly:
Tighten and secure all screws, bushings, and fittings so lenses are firmly held with no rotation or play at the mounting points. Maintain the structural integrity and long-term durability of the finished rimless product.

Key Skills Required
• Must be able to read prescriptions
• Able and willing to work as a team
• Must be able to work overtime and Saturdays when needed
• Able to read and write English language well
• Have good eyesight, had/eye coordination, manual dexterity, attention to detail and patience
• Can work independently
• Skilled in precision drilling, including correct hole placement, angle, and depth on finished lenses
• Working knowledge of lens materials and how they respond to drilling (e.g., polycarbonate, Trivex, high-index, CR-39, glass)

Experience
Prior mounting experience in an optical lab required; experience drilling and assembling rimless (drill-mount) eyewear strongly preferred.
