Lending Services Manager - Internal Applicants Only

The Town of Windsor, CT is seeking a collaborative and experienced professional to join our library management team as the Lending Services Manager. The Position:

This Lending Services Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and overseeing the programs and activities of the Library’s Lending Services Department. The position provides leadership and supervision to staff and volunteers, manages day-to-day circulation operations, supports technology and service improvements, and works collaboratively with library leadership, patrons, community organizations, and other partners.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manages and supervises lending and circulation operations, including staff scheduling, workload assignments, recruitment, training, coaching, performance evaluation, and volunteer coordination.
  • Oversees departmental budgets and resources, including monitoring revenues and expenditures, assisting with annual budget preparation, procuring materials and supplies, and ensuring efficient use of personnel and equipment.
  • Advises the Library Director and senior staff on lending services, operations, technology, policies, procedures, and service improvements; prepares reports, studies, and operational records to support decision-making.
  • Leads the use and advancement of library technology, working with the integrated library services provider and other partners to improve automated circulation, online services, productivity, and patron access.
  • Provides excellent patron service, including assistance with material selection, reference guidance, circulation transactions, and in-house reference services while fostering a welcoming environment for diverse patrons.
  • Promotes library services and programs through community outreach, presentations, marketing, partnerships, and participation in special programs and events.
  • Supports overall library operations and community engagement, including circulation equipment maintenance, facility and equipment needs, staff training, meetings, committees, seminars, and other related activities.

  • Communicate clearly, professionally, and respectfully with staff, patrons, community organizations, governmental agencies, and the general public
  • Be comfortable working with technology and interested in identifying new ways to improve library services and operations
  • Be knowledgeable and skilled in the use of MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook), the Internet, social media, and library database software

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Computer Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field, with four (4) years of experience in a computerized library or records management setting and one (1) year of supervisory experience; OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to successfully complete the Town’s background screening and any other pre-employment requirements
  • Ability to work a schedule that may include evenings and/or weekends as required by library operations and programs

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $75,000 to $82,000, with starting salary depending on qualifications. Town employees enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including:
