Who We Are

The Roy Fagan Centre (RFC) is Tasmania’s statewide specialised inpatient mental health facility for older persons, and part of Older Person’s Mental Health Service (OPMHS). We provide compassionate, person-centred care to individuals experiencing acute mental ill health, neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia, and complex psychiatric conditions. Our multidisciplinary team works across four purpose-built units, each designed to support dignity, safety, and therapeutic engagement.

• Acute psychiatric care

• Geriatric rehabilitation
• Palliative and end-of-life care
• Rehabilitation and recovery-focused programs
• Support for families, carers, and community transitions

Our patients are older Tasmanians age 65+, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50+, who require specialised mental health support. We also support individuals with young-onset neurodegenerative conditions.

The Role:

As a member of the OPMHS Roy Fagan Centre, the Leisure and Lifestyle Coordinator is responsible for:

• Coordinating Leisure and Lifestyle programs for the patients of Roy Fagan Centre.
• Planning, implementing, and evaluating quality individual and group programs at the Roy Fagan Centre.

You will need:

1. Practical experience in residential activity programs including the proven ability to plan, present and market creative activities and programs; develop programs that work with individuals and groups and encourage participation which supports improved patient well-being.
2. Demonstrated expertise in assessing and responding to the emotional and psychosocial needs of patients through meaningful engagement and person-centred care. Possesses in-depth knowledge of Aged Care and Mental Health principles, with extensive experience supporting individuals with complex mental health conditions and/or behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD).
3. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, together with the capacity to effectively establish a rapport with patients, families and carers.
4. Ability to undertake administrative and clerical tasks, use office management software programs, collate, and present information as required and effectively manage patient records.
5. Proven ability to provide leadership, direction and support to the staff of the Activities Team.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $73,811 to $79,779 per annum. Our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

Eligibility:

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

• Current Driver’s Licence
• Work Experience in a Mental Health and/or Aged Care setting.
• Completion of or willingness to complete Certificate IV in Leisure and Health and/or equivalent qualification/s.
