Job Description
Are you looking to advance your legal career at the heart of a leading global financial institution? Citi's Technology, Operations & Privacy Legal team is seeking a Legal Support Specialist to deliver hands-on legal support across technology transactions, intellectual property, cybersecurity, and data privacy — including emerging areas such as AI and new technologies. This is a non-attorney role that offers direct exposure to a high-impact, specialist legal team operating at the intersection of law and technology in the financial services sector.
Responsibilities
- Deliver legal support across technology transactions, intellectual property, cybersecurity, data privacy, and AI-related matters, ensuring accurate and timely handling of each area.
- Manage patent and trademark docketing, coordinate trademark clearance and renewals, administer trademark and copyright agreements, and support enforcement activities on behalf of intellectual property attorneys.
- Review marketing and communications content to verify correct trademark usage, helping to protect Citi's intellectual property assets.
- Create, maintain, and track legal documentation and contract templates — including NDAs and trial agreements — supporting technology transactions attorneys throughout the contract lifecycle.
- Assist cybersecurity and data privacy attorneys in managing the response to information security incidents and data privacy events, ensuring matters are handled with care and in line with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct legal research and analytical work across regulatory, legislative, and industry developments relevant to technology, privacy, and intellectual property law.
- Coordinate team projects, prepare reports, and manage billing processes, contributing to the smooth day-to-day operation of the legal function.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent university-level qualification.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in a legal environment, with exposure to a corporate legal department or law firm setting preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to draft, review, and manage legal documents with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational discipline.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal information clearly and professionally.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- Familiarity with legal customs, practices, and documentation standards within a professional legal environment.
- Ability to work independently under minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-volume setting, managing competing priorities and meeting tight deadlines.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
- Experience supporting intellectual property matters, particularly in trademark docketing, clearance, or enforcement within a corporate or law firm context.
- Background in technology transactions.
- Experience drafting or reviewing NDAs, trial agreements, or other technology-related contracts.
- Exposure to cybersecurity incident response or data privacy compliance processes, ideally within the financial services industry.
- Knowledge of or genuine interest in AI and emerging technology issues as they relate to legal risk and regulatory developments.
