Make a real difference in people’s lives with EML

Are you passionate about helping people get their lives back after injury or illness?

As Australia’s largest specialist in personal injury claims management, our sole focus is helping people return to work safely and confidently after a workplace incident.

We are seeking in-house Legal Specialists to join our Claims Business Unit. In this role, you will leverage your legal expertise and workers compensation knowledge to strategically manage and resolve claims involving litigation.

You will play a key role in:

  • Preparing and managing Work Injury Damages (WID) claims
  • Overseeing statutory litigation matters within the Personal Injury Commission
  • Managing other legally complex claims
  • Undertaking legal project work
  • Providing expert legal guidance and support to EML’s Nominal Insurer claims teams and policy holders

Reporting to the Legal Manager, you will contribute to achieving EML’s performance targets and organisational objectives while delivering a high standard of service to stakeholders.

This is an opportunity to apply your technical expertise within a collaborative environment where your work has genuine purpose and impact.

If you are looking to combine legal excellence with meaningful outcomes, this role offers both challenge and reward.

We’re now welcoming applications to join our supportive, purpose‑driven team in Sydney or Newcastle on a permanent, fulltime basis. This is deeply meaningful work where your empathy, problem‑solving and commitment have a profound impact every single day.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide timely, accurate legal advice to support the claims team on legislative, regulatory and policy matters relating to workers’ compensation, enabling sound, evidence-based decision making.
  • Partner closely with external legal panel providers to ensure high-quality advice and the development of effective litigation strategies that achieve optimal outcomes.
  • Represent EML in legal proceedings alongside external legal representatives.
  • Contribute to strategic portfolio reviews, including presenting to employers on key legal principles and individual claim matters where required.
  • Monitor and interpret emerging case law and precedents impacting claims management, premiums and the broader scheme, ensuring insights are embedded into practice.

What We’re Looking For

It’s ok if you haven’t done this before, what matters most is your commitment to helping others that can make you a great fit for the role. Do you have…

  • 1–3 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally within a Workers Compensation practice managing Work Injury Damages (WID) and statutory workers compensation matters.
  • Proven experience in a comparable legal role operating within a fast-paced, commercially focused environment.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management

Why You’ll Love Being Part of EML

You’ll enjoy a range of benefits designed to support your wellbeing, growth and success:

  • Hybrid work options for better balance.
  • Fitness Passport providing heavily discounted access to your local gyms, pools and fitness facilities.
  • Discounts at 350+ retailers via RewardsHub plus discounts with corporate banking, super and private health insurance partners.
  • Corporate wellbeing program, including gym and health insurance discounts.
  • Comprehensive learning and development tailored to help you grow.
  • More than a traditional Employee Assistance Program, our EAP provides access to professional medical advice and safety features for our employees and their families
  • Company-wide celebration events that keep us connected.
  • Annual incentive scheme + regular salary reviews.

Ready to Make an Impact?
