About the role

The Legal & Risk Team Lead is a key member of the extended leadership team, responsible for establishing and leading the legal, risk, and compliance frameworks that support FUJIFILM Business Innovation NZ’s strategy.

Reporting to the General Manager of Corporate Services, you will be the trusted adviser on all legal, risk, and governance matters across the organisation. You will balance commercial legal advice with robust risk frameworks, enabling the business to move confidently and responsibly in a fast-changing environment. You will play a central role in major commercial negotiations, developing the legal framework governing a business during a period of transformation, technology change initiatives, regulatory engagement, and enterprise risk management. This role will lead a team of specialists across legal, risk & compliance, building a high-performing, solutions-driven function.

Other duties include:

  • Act as a proactive, trusted legal partner to the business by providing clear, commercially focused advice on key matters, including major customer contracts, technology, and other core commercial arrangements

  • Provide strategic legal advice to the Senior Leadership team on complex commercial matters

  • Provide pragmatic and actionable legal advice to all departments within the business

  • Maintain the enterprise risk, compliance, and governance framework, including risk identification, reporting to the Senior Leadership Team, and ownership of business continuity, crisis management, and incident response.

  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand laws (including privacy, fair trading, consumer law and health & safety)

  • Provide governance oversight of FBNZ’s facilities and vehicle fleet, including lease negotiations, key vendor relationships and a fleet strategy

  • Support corporate governance and company secretarial requirements and advise on crossborder arrangements with FUJIFILM APAC Group entities, working closely with regional and global teams.

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing legal and compliance team

  • Work with the Voice of Customer Manager to settle any customer disputes

Skills & experience

We are looking for someone with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset. Along with this, you will also have:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) + current NZ practicing certificate

  • At least 6+ PQE experience in corporate/commercial law either in private practice or similar in-house position

  • Proven leadership experience or mentoring experience

  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance risk and opportunity

  • Experience in risk management, governance, and compliance frameworks is advantageous

  • Familiarity with ISO standards (e.g. ISO27001, ISO45001, ISO14001) and/or audit environments is desirable

  • Deep knowledge of corporate governance, directors’ duties, with the ability to draft and understand legal documents without heavy reliance on external legal counsel

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex legal and risk concepts into clear, actionable guidance

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, educate, and partner at senior levels.
