Department Overview

Rakuten Symphony is a global technology company that provides the open, virtualized mobile network technology that underpinned Rakuten Mobile's success to telecommunications carriers and enterprises worldwide, driving digital transformation.
Legal Department is also a global organization. In addition to Japan (7 members, Deputy General Manager-based), members are located in the UK (1 member, General Counsel-based), the US (1 member), Germany (2 members), the UAE (1 member), and India (2 members), supporting operations in each country.
We are seeking individuals who can collaborate with colleagues across multiple countries and cross-functional teams as part of the team, providing legal support across various jurisdictions.

Position Details

Business Overview
To advance Rakuten Symphony's global business from a legal perspective, we provide contract negotiation support, legal reviews, dispute resolution, and related services.

Primary Responsibilities
- Contract Drafting & Negotiation (Japanese/English): Lead the drafting and negotiation of complex commercial contracts related to Rakuten Symphony's overall business (particularly telecommunications software and technology transactions).
- Legal Review: Conduct legal reviews of Rakuten's products, marketing, and business initiatives. Collaborate with other teams to provide practical, solution-oriented advice that accelerates launches and innovation.
- Dispute Resolution: Handle disputes with customers and suppliers.
- Project Management: Plan, manage, and execute multiple projects simultaneously.

Work Environment

Organizational Structure
- Number of Employees (L2: 1, L2.5: 1, L3: 3, L4/L5: 2)
- Age Range: Primarily 30s to 40s
- Ratio of New Graduates to Mid-Career Hires: New Graduates: Mid-Career Hires (1:9)

Background of Mid-Career Hires
- Law firms, IT, consulting, manufacturers, etc.

Mandatory Qualifications:

- LL.B., J.D., LL.M., or equivalent degree.
- At least 3 to 5 years of practical experience in law firm or as an in-house legal professional. Candidates with more extensive experience are also welcome.
- Fluent in Japanese and English.

Desired Qualifications:

- Admission to the bar in an overseas jurisdiction or in Japan.
- Experience in a multinational and diverse environment.
- Experience in the IT, software, or telecom industry.
