As an Executive Director you will be expected to be proactive in advising GBSB and its stakeholders on Singapore banking and financial services laws and regulations and supporting the continued development of GBSB's activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Provide legal and regulatory advice to GBSB, with a focus on Singapore banking regulation and broader financial services regulation, including implementation of regulatory change.
  • Advise on GBSB regulatory obligations, policies, governance, controls and operating arrangements, including relevant governance and committee processes.

  • Support Corporate Treasury matters for GBSB, including bank and intercompany loans, funding and liquidity arrangements and guarantees.
  • Provide transactional and cross-border regulatory advice, including drafting, reviewing and negotiating legal documentation and advising on intragroup and third-party arrangements.
  • Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting GBSB, including relevant Singapore and EU regulatory requirements.
  • Support new businesses, products and activities as GBSB develops, including legal and regulatory analysis and implementation.
  • Coordinate with various internal stakeholders including Compliance, Corporate Treasury, Risk, Controllers, Operations and Tax, and support relevant local, regional and global processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Qualified lawyer with relevant post-qualification experience at a reputable law firm, financial institution and/or other in-house legal team, minimum 6 years PQE.
  • An ability to demonstrate a strong grounding in Singapore banking law and financial regulation, and the legal and regulatory requirements applicable to banks and bank branches, including governance and banking activities.
  • Experience advising banks or other regulated financial institutions on legal and regulatory matters.
  • Working knowledge of Singapore regulatory developments affecting banks and financial institutions.
  • Strong legal and business judgment, communication, drafting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to engage proactively as an adviser to the business and work confidently with senior stakeholders on complex matters.
  • Strong sense of ownership and responsibility, with the ability to work independently and manage a diverse and complex workload.
  • Experience working on cross-border matters and with regional or global stakeholders would be advantageous.
  • Mandarin speaking and Chinese reading and writing skills are preferred due to the role's coverage of cross-border legal and regulatory matters in Asia. The role may involve reviewing and interpreting Chinese-language legal, regulatory and transactional materials and communicating with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.
