Job Description

About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Engineer to join our CoLab team here in Birmingham.

Within this role you will support lawyers and clients in using legal technology effectively, providing responsive guidance and troubleshooting across a range of solutions. The role also involves delivering legal tech projects, supporting product pilots, and promoting new tools through training, demos and one‑to‑one support across the firm.

About you:

We’re looking for a proactive self‑starter who is enthusiastic, quick to learn and keen to bring ideas to the team. You’ll have a genuine interest in the business of a law firm, and the role technology plays within it, alongside strong written and verbal communication skills and the confidence to engage with a range of audiences.

You’ll be highly collaborative and adaptable, comfortable working with stakeholders across different teams and locations, and able to balance multiple priorities with a logical, detail‑focused approach. Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills are essential, as is good IT literacy, including MS Office and an interest in developing your knowledge of legal technology. Experience in a legal or legal technology environment would be beneficial but is not essential.

What We Can Offer You:

The opportunity to work for a firm that has been recognised as one of best places to work in the UK and has been ranked by Great Place to Work® for 26 consecutive years.

Excellent benefits, including:

  • A hybrid approach to office and remote working.
  • 25 days annual leave, with the option to buy up to a week's extra annual leave
  • Private medical insurance, and the option to add family members
  • A generous pension allowance
  • Life assurance covering four times your annual salary
  • The chance of a three-month sabbatical every five years
  • Maternity, paternity and adoption leave schemes
  • A range of health and wellbeing programmes
  • State of the art offices, with an onsite restaurant
  • Opportunities to flourish in your role through training and personal development

Equal Opportunities:

Gowling WLG is committed both to promoting equality and diversity in the firm and to Equal Opportunities in employment. The firm believes in equality of opportunity regardless of race or racial group (including colour, nationality, ethnicity, national origins), religion or belief, age, disability, sexual orientation, sex, gender re-assignment and gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, and pregnancy, maternity and paternity.
