About this opportunity:

We are looking for a disciplined, structured, organised, personable, flexible, motivated and commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our Market Area Southeast Asia, Oceania and India (“MOAI”) Legal Team, based in Kuala Lumpur. This role will be responsible for all Corporate Governance work for the legal entities in Southeast Asia and will also serve as the primary legal point of contact for Sourcing matters in the region.

What you will do:

Sourcing & Supply Chain (Primary)

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of sourcing and procurement contracts, including supplier agreements, framework agreements, master service agreements, subcontracting arrangements and tenancy agreements.
  • Advise internal stakeholders on legal risks and obligations arising from sourcing transactions across SEA markets.
  • Support the development, standardisation and implementation of sourcing contract templates and playbooks for SEA.
  • Collaborate with the Sourcing team and other relevant functions to ensure legal compliance and risk mitigation in supplier engagements are addressed.
  • Supporting claims positioning, dispute avoidance and escalation and engagement with internal stakeholders on contentious supplier issues.

Corporate Governance (Primary)

  • Independently manage, lead and provide legal support on corporate secretarial and governance matters, including drafting, reviewing and managing the filing of corporate documents such as board meetings and circular resolutions for Ericsson legal entities across SEA, including Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Brunei and Bangladesh.
  • Advisor to the SEA local counsel on statutory compliance, director duties, board resolutions, and regulatory filings in relevant jurisdictions ensuring the entities operate in full compliance with these frameworks.
  • Support internal governance processes, including compliance with Ericsson's Code of Business Ethics (COBE) and related internal policies.
  • Being the primary interface to external corporate secretaries, Financial Control and local counsel as required across SEA markets to ensure statutory compliance and adherence.
  • Maintain corporate records in line with Ericsson requirements.
  • Collaborate with broader MOAI and GF Legal teams on complex governance, regulatory or director-related issues as appropriate.
  • Support and coordination of Powers of Attorney issuance and tracking and delegation of authority frameworks

Customer Contracts (Secondary)

  • Provide clear, practical and commercial legal support on customer-facing contracts as and when needed, particularly during periods of high demand or to cover capacity gaps within the SEA legal team.
  • Assist in reviewing and negotiating customer contracts with telecommunications operators across SEA.

General Legal Support

  • Work collaboratively with the broader MOAI Legal Team and Group Function Legal Affairs to ensure consistent and coordinated legal support across the cluster.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of legal processes, frameworks, and best practices within the MOAI Legal Team.
  • Engage proactively with business stakeholders to build trusted partnerships and provide commercially sound legal advice.
  • Provide legal advice and support on privacy matters and regulatory compliance across SEA.
  • Contributing to training (e.g. sourcing/legal awareness) and knowledge sharing across MOAI

The skills you bring

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Law (LL.B or equivalent); admission to the Malaysian Bar or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 4 to 7 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal function with the ability to work independently and manage matters with limited supervision.
  • Solid experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts, particularly in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain contexts.
  • Hands-on working experience in company secretarial and governance matters. Solid understanding and knowledge of company law, corporate governance and company secretarial matters in Malaysia and/or Singapore; familiarity with other SEA jurisdictions is an advantage.
  • Experience in the telecommunications, technology, or infrastructure industry is preferred but not essential.
  • Prior exposure to customer contract negotiations is an advantage.

  • Strong drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Commercially astute with the ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organised, self-driven, and able to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and work activities independently across multiple jurisdictional.
  • Collaborative team player who embraces a culture of shared ownership and accountability.
  • Comfortable working across diverse cultures and cross-border teams in a multinational environment.
  • Demonstrates a culture of speaking up with the confidence to raise concerns and escalate risks.
  • Ability to communicate in different Southeast Asian languages will be advantageous.
  • Proficient in Generative AI (such as MS Copilot or equivalent), Microsoft Office, SharePoint and other collaboration tools.
