Job Description
hermeneutic Investments is a best-in-class proprietary trading firm and hedge fund. It deploys research-driven discretionary and systematic strategies as well as makes strategic long-term investments. The partners' decade-long history of success in trading and business building and a firm-wide cultural emphasis on alpha generation, open debate, relentless iteration, and teamwork are key to the firm's continued expansion in a challenging market environment that has hamstrung competitors. A hard-wired emphasis on risk management and opportunistic market participation ensure that hermeneutic Investments will continue its growth trajectory in the coming decades.
We are looking for a Singapore-qualified lawyer with strong commercial instincts and sound judgment to work alongside our General Counsel across the full spectrum of the firm's global legal needs.
This is a newly created role, reporting directly to the General Counsel. You will be embedded in the business from day one, working across commercial, regulatory, and operational legal matters with genuine ownership and visibility. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced investment environment and is looking to deepen their expertise within a lean and high-performing team.
This is not a purely transactional or advisory role. You will own material workstreams independently, engage directly with internal stakeholders, and be expected to bring practical, well-reasoned legal views rather than deferred opinions. The right candidate is as comfortable reviewing a vendor contract or employment agreement as they are navigating a regulatory query or supporting a fund-level transaction.
Responsibilities
- Draft and review commercial agreements including NDAs, service agreements, vendor contracts, and trading documentation
- Support licensing, regulatory filings and entity maintenance matters, and monitor Singapore regulatory developments relevant to the firm’s activities
- Assist with corporate governance requirements and internal policy maintenance
- Assist with HR and employment related legal requirements
- Identify and communicate legal risk clearly to Finance, HR, Operations, and other business stakeholders, with a focus on practical solutions
- Conduct legal research and prepare summaries and memos to support the General Counsel's advice to internal stakeholders
- Help coordinate with external counsel and manage related correspondence and documentation
- Maintain and develop the firm's contract management system and internal legal records
- Provide support to the General Counsel on transactions, disputes and any other legal matters or ad hoc projects as needed
Requirements
- Qualified lawyer admitted to the Singapore Bar with a minimum 4 years of post-qualification experience
- Experience in a trading firm, hedge fund, asset manager, financial institution, or leading law firm advising financial services clients
- Experience supporting Singapore licensing, regulatory, or entity setup matters is highly preferred
- Familiarity with MAS regulatory frameworks and Singapore corporate governance requirements
- Candidates must have existing working rights in Singapore; visa sponsorship is not available
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide practical legal advice in a fast-paced environment
Desired Attributes
- Sharp, practical judgment: you give clear legal views, not hedged memos
- Ownership mentality: you run workstreams autonomously and don't wait to be managed
- Commercial awareness: you understand the business context behind legal questions
- Discretion and precision: you handle confidential information with professionalism and produce accurate work under pressure
- Adaptability: you can context-switch across legal domains and adjust to a fast-moving environment
What We Offer
- Direct reporting line to the General Counsel with real mentorship and development
- Broad legal exposure across commercial, regulatory, and transactional work
- Lean team structure with genuine impact and visibility
Interview Process

Company Values
Throughout the process, you'll be assessed for cultural fit through our company values:
- Drive – We believe the best team members are deeply passionate about what they do. That passion fuels their growth, drives them to seek out the best teams, and leads them to hold high expectations of themselves in pursuit of excellence.
- Ownership – We aim to extend ownership as broadly as possible across the firm. In return, we value people who take initiative, step up when needed, and treat the company’s goals as their own.
- Judgment – We value those who see the big picture and focus on what truly drives impact and results. They use time wisely, adapt across domains, and always prioritize outcomes over comfort zones.

- Resilience – We perform under pressure. Markets move fast, and so do we—but we stay grounded, focused, and calm. We embrace uncertainty, learn from setbacks, and adapt quickly without losing sight of long-term goals.
